Knoxville News-Sentinel; Knoxville TN; 2007-8-5 & 2007-8-6 LAKINS, J.C. (WHOOEY) - age 68 went ot be with the Lord on Saturday, August 04, 2007, at UT Hospital, following an ATV accident. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, church worker, and friend. Preceded in death by: parents, Deaver and Anna Mae Lakins; sister, Opal Kitts; and daughter-in-law Nicole Lakins. He is survived by: his wife of 43 years, Brenda Lakins, 2 children: daughter, Debbie Orrick of Blaine; son, Steve Lakins of Rutledge; his greatest joys in life were his 2 grandsons, Josh Orrick - Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, VA and Trevor Lakins 4th grade student at Rutledge Middle School; 2 step-grandchildren, Richie and Aletha Gray of Rutledge; brother, James Headrick Lakins of Morristown; a very special friend, Allen (Speck) Sykes of Rutledge. He was a devoted member and deacon of Noah's Chapel American Christian Church. Whooey retired from Johnson & Galyon Construction and was co-owner of Sunburst Tanning Salon. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be at Noah's Chapel Church in Rutledge at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, August 7th with the Reverends Buddy Hipsher and Dwight Bull officiating. Family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home from 6-9 P.M. on Monday, August 6th. Interment will be at Noah's Chapel Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Walton conducting the graveside service.
