V Newman, highway superintendent who is supervising the rebuilding of the Long Eddy highway, was severly injured Wednesday evening when his car ran off the Long Eddy-Hankins dugway. Newman, highway superintendent of the town of Fremont, while supervising the rebuilding of the Long Eddy highway, was severly injured Wednesday evening when his car ran off the Long Eddy-Hankins dugway as he was returning from work. Annoyed by a bumble bee, he lost control of the car and it went over the bank, overturning three times and pinning him underneath, the steering wheel holding him by the foot and the running board holding him down by his neck. It was found that Mr. Newman's left arm was paralyzed and that he had suffered many bruises about his head and neck. The Ford escaped with a broken windshield, wheel and spring. Top score was by Robert Dowitsch with 126, followed by Gerald Mootz, 125; Archie Misner, 124; Wilfred Weiss and Allan Fried, 119; Gerald Newman, 115; and Robert Schmidt, 114. Douglas Bury shot 112; Adolph Wagner, 109; Clinton Segar, 107; and Robert Knack, 106. The Callicoon Center Band furnished music in the afternoon. Officers elected for the year were Wm. Newman of Fremont started work on putting in a stone road on the Obernburg hill. This link will complete a stone road across the town of Fremont from the Callicoon line at North Branch to Hankins. The daughter of the late Frederick and Frances Kille Staesser, she was born Aug. 20, 1906, in Acidalia. She was the widow of George C. Newman. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Obernburg. Survivors include on daughter, Marie McCabe of Callicoon Center; two sons, Gerald Newman of Bradenton, Fla. and Fred Newman of Suitland, Md.; four grandchildren, Brian and Kelly McCabe, Paul Newman, and Kim Chorley; two great grandchildren, Colleen Ann McCabe and Allison Newman; and several nieces and nephews.
