END From the Sullivan County Democrat, Callicoon, New York in June of 1994: BEGIN Five members of the Class of 1939, the last class to graduate from Callicoon High School, met for a 55th class reunion and had their pictures taken on the front steps of their alma mater - Raymond Lahm, who came from San Diego, Calif., Shirley Hartz of Binghamton, Warren "Doc" Lauder of Kennett Square, Pa., Warren McClure of Lillian, Ala., and Arthur Ferber of Verona, N.J. Also joining in the festivities at The Western Hotel were Edwin Forsblom of Hankins, Francis Henke of Callicoon, Margaret Schick Peake of Fremont Center and George Schmidt of North Branch. The next class of graduates from the school (1940) will be the first class to graduate from the newly merged (Long Eddy and Callicoon) Delaware Valley Central School. END from Margaret Schick (7.10, child iv) in 2005: BEGIN Margaret, born May 27, 1919 in Obernburg, baptized in St. Mary's Church. She married Norman Allen Gettel ("Al") on September 7, 1946 in St. Mary's Church. Al is born on May 20, 1919 in Lake Huntington, New York, and is the son of Walter Gettel of Lower Beechwoods, New York. He served in the United States Army during World War II from March of 1941 until October of 1945. He was a TEC 5th Grade in Company D - 4th Division, 22nd Infantry. Al was a part of D-Day and received the Bronze Star for helping rescue seven wounded men under heavy fire. As a civilian Al was a mason. He died in January of 1971 at Veteran's Hospital in Albany, New York and was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery. Margaret remarried Lucian Francis Peake (known as Francis) on January 14, 1978 in St. Mary's Church. They lived in Fremont Center, Sullivan County. Lucian graduated from Callicoon High School in 1932. Lucian was born on April 13, 1914 in Pea Brook, New York and worked in gardening and logging. He died on April 12, 1987 in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania and was buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Long Eddy, Sullivan County. Margaret did domestic work and is now (2005) semi-retired and living in Fremont Center. Lucian had at least one child named Gary D. by a previous marriage. Gary married Carol Pyatt, the daughter of Stanley Pyatt of Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. They were probably married on June 24, 1967 in Easton. Gary and Carol had a child named Dolcie. Lucian's first spouse was probably Ethel Geer, daughter of Ralph Geer and Hester Brooke. Hester is the daughter of Samuel Brooke and Eliza Cook who came from England in the mid 1800s and landed in New York City. At the time of Lucian's marriage he is described as of Peabrook. Villa Roma Chambermaid, 90 Margaret Peake of Obernburg, NY, a retired Villa Roma chambermaid and a lifetime resident of the area, died Thursday, November 12, 2009. She was 90. The daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Kille Schick, she was born May 27, 1919 in Obernburg. She was the widow of Norman Gettel and Francis Peake. She was a member of St. Francis' Church and the Altar Rosary Society in Obernburg. She is survived by two brothers, Albert Schick and his wife Evelyn of Obernburg, and Lawrence Schick and his wife Margaret of Bethel, NY; several nieces and nephews, and several cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony Schick Jr. and Frank Schick; and by a sister, Anna Dirie. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main St., Callicoon, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 14 at St. Mary's Church, Obernburg with Father Joseph Jeracek, OFM, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Obernburg.
