From the Sullivan County Democrat, Callicoon, New York in July of 1921: BEGIN Fred Stoesser, who fell from a hay wagon a short time ago and broke several ribs, is recovering nicely.--Acidalia Corresp. END From the "Basket Letters" published by The Basket Historical Society: BEGIN John Stoesser's brother, Fred, also lived at Acidalia in the 1890's, and was at one time foreman of the lower or Fernwood factory. Fred had married Frances Kille of Obernburg and there were three children: William, Amanda and Frances. Mr. Stoesser started farming on the place that he bought in 1901 and lived there the rest of his life, having one of the best farms on the Basket. He was also a stationary engineer and during the sawing season always fired the boiler in the LaValley mill, at the same time keeping a watchful eye on the younger generation to see that they didn't get fouled up in the belt and flywheel of the steam engine. When Mr. Stoesser's son, William, got married, Bill constructed a house across the road from his father's house in Fernwood, and had been the first frame house built on the east branch of the Basket. Bill, who is a World War I veteran, has been in business in Long Eddy for a number of years, owning a restaurant and service station there on Route 97. END findagrave.com ...
