From the Sullivan County Democrat, Callicoon, New York in March of 1907: BEGIN The "rubber" match between the Callicoon and Jeffersonville bowling teams was played at Kille's Alleys at North Branch Friday night and the Jay boys got it where the Jays usually get it anyway. They were handed two large sized gold bricks. Callicoon won 766 to 683. END From the Sullivan County Democrat, Callicoon, New York in October of 1918: BEGIN Only 17 liquor licenses have been issued in Sullivan County for the new license year, beginning October 1. Last year there were 202. The decrease is due to the Prohibition wave which struck this county last fall, when several more towns voted for no license. Revenue to the county from licenses has decreased $28,885 from $35,485 to $6,600. Among those to whom licenses have been issued are Town of Callicoon, fee $600; August Hasbrouck, Jeffersonville; F. Steinhauser, Callicoon Center; John E. Abplanalp, Youngsville; John Link, North Branch; Delaware, $350 - George W. Sawyer, George Weiner, Brandt and Buddenhagen (bottlers, $259), Callicoon, George DeLap of Kenoza Lake; Fremont, $350 - William Kille, Hankins, Wm. H. END As written by Rose Elizabeth (Kille) Leewe (3.102): BEGIN William was born March 2, 1872 in Obernburg, N.Y., the son of Josef Kille and Mary Deckelman Kille. I know nothing of his boyhood but he married Elisabeth Ackerman of Obernburg on May 23, 1899 at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Obernburg. They lived in various places - once in N.Y. City where he worked for 1 or 2 of his brothers who owned a saloon (+ brewery?). They also - my parents - bought and operated a saloon of their own in New York City - I think in the early 1900's - as a picture I have shows my mother with a baby carriage + Bill + can't remember if another child or not. My parents also owned & operated the North Branch Hotel & bar at one time, + owned & operated the Hankins House, Hankins, N.Y. They also had a farm between North Branch & Obernburg 1 time. They also had a house in North Branch where I was born in 1923. It was known as the Howercamp or Hauercamp House - I don't remember the spelling of it. Their final move was to Obernburg & the house they built (where I grew up). My father died May 29, 1947 at 75 yrs. of age. He is buried in the Obernburg Cemetery. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Obernburg. My father never had or worked in Callicoon, N.Y. nor in Long Eddy, N.Y. as you had on a sheet way back. I knew nothing of the grange officer membership business, but he did go to meetings I remember & talked of the grange a lot. Pete L. [Peter Leewe, brother of Rose's husband, Francis Joseph Leewe - MEL] says he was an officer because after his death think it was, Pete was elected to the same office, so guess that was true. I can't find sheet to make a copy so am writing this here. Elisabeth (she spelled her name with an s - but spelled my name with a z). Elisabeth was born in Obernburg on Sept. 22, 1880 the daughter of Eugene Ackerman and Mary Dusold Ackerman. She lived in Obernburg until her marriage to William Kille May 23, 1899 also of Obernburg. Thereafter they lived in various places - in New York City, where my father worked for 1 or 2 of his brothers who owned a saloon. Also in New York City where my father owned & operated a saloon of his own, in North Branch, N.Y. and in Hankins, N.Y. they also owned saloons. At one point on a farm on a road between Obernburg & North Branch & also they lived in a house in North Branch. That's where I was born in 1923. And last of all they moved to Obernburg, N.Y. See notes on me for that story. Elisabeth died June 17, 1951 at her home in Obernburg. The funeral Mass was Wed. June 20, 1951 at 10 A.M. at the Obernburg cemetery by the Kelley-Stewart Funeral Service.
