Santa Maria Times; Santa Maria CA; 2009-3-24 MARY KATHERINE KILLE 1940-2009 Mary Katherine Kille, only daughter of Norman Paul Miller and first wife, (Helen) Harriet Staniford (Boyce), was born in Los Angeles on March 1, 1940, and passed away in Marian Medical Center, Santa Maria, on March 18, 2009. Mary's dad, Norm, a self-employed oil wells producer, loved to reminisce about his early days in Carmel, where he ran an aerial taxi service. He passed away in Redondo Beach in 1996 at 89 years. Mary was the granddaughter of well-known California landscape artist, Ralph Davison Miller, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mary Gertrude Dow, a native of Canterbury, New Brunswick, both residents of Los Angeles by 1900. Mary was also the granddaughter of San Jose native, Donald Luke "Doc" Staniford, who had a drugstore in Carmel for many years, and first wife, Helen Josephine More, a San Francisco native. In 1981 following a divorce from her first husband, Fred Kille, Mary moved to Santa Maria to take care of her mother, a long time Santa Maria resident, whose second husband, Kenny Boyce, was a member of local law enforecement. Harriet passed away at home in Santa Maria, on February 6, 2000 at 90 yuears of age. Mary became an avid antique bottles collector, a passion that began while married to Fred, and continued on throughout her life. In her later years she enjoyed keeping track of the Lakers. Mary always possessed a child-like quality and will be remembered for her good nature and sense of humor. Preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, step-parents, uncles, aunts, and one brother, Bruce D. Miller. Survived by husband, Val V. Mcluff of Santa Maria, whom she married in 1991, son, John D. Kille of Reno, NV, Aunt, Jean Sciocchetti of Jacksonville, OR, Step-sister, Veon Filak of Redondo Beach and several cousins in California and Oregon. No funeral services were requested. Cremation with private burial in the Santa Maria Cemetery with her mother and step-dad will take place.
