Deckelman, a licensed charter captain and co-owner of a Rock Hall marina, died Tuesday of cancer at Chester River Hospital Center in Chestertown. The former Essex resident was 65. Born Maria Charlotte Theresa Gostomski in Baltimore, she graduated in 1960 from Kenwood High School. She attended the University of Maryland, College Park. Since 1981, Mrs. Deckelman had been a co-owner and business manager of Long Cove Marina in Rock Hall, which she established with her husband, Alan David "Mort" Deckelman. Mrs. Deckelman held a Coast Guard charter captain's license, which also entitled her to tow boats. She was also a member of the Maryland Watermen's Association. "She had the brains, and her husband, Mort, had the brawn," said a son, Alan D. Deckelman Jr. of Rock Hall. She was a communicant of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Rock Hall. Mrs. Deckelman enjoyed baking, sewing and reading. Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown. In addition to her husband of 33 years and her son, she is survived by two other sons, David Dvorak II of Baltimore and William Deckelman of Rock Hall; two brothers, Bernard Gostomski of Baltimore and Gregory Gostomski of Florida; four sisters, Gloria Trombero and Dorothea Manning, both of Baltimore, Andrea Daia of West Virginia and Silvia Alexander of Florida; and three grandchildren. An earlier marriage to David Dvorak Sr. ended in divorce.
