The Daily Journal, Vineland NJ - Tues. Jan 29, 2008 ELEANOR C. KILLE Director of occupational therapy Eleanor C. Kille, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at the South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland after an extended illness. Born in Salem, she lived in Vineland for most of her life. She began her career in occupational therapy at the Vineland State School and was a graduate of Philadelphia School of Occupational Therapy before going on to receive her bachelors and masters degrees from New York University. She was supervisor of occupational therapy at the Southbury Training School, in Southbury, Conn. for several years before moving on to become the director of occupational therapy of the Ancora Psychiatric Hospital, retiring after 25 years of service. After retirement, Ancora Psychiatric Hospital established the Eleanor C. Kille Rehabilitation Award in her honor. This award became an annual award given to a member of the rehabilitation department who demonstrated dedication, innovation, quality standards, and caring attitude. Accompanying the award was a monetary tribute established by Ms. Kille. She was the author of papers published in the American Journal of Mental Deficiency, The Hand Weaver & Craftsman, and the American Journal of Occupational Therapy. She was a great lecturer and instructor in the occupational therapy courses at Columbia University. She was an adjunct instructor in the occupational therapy assistant courses at Atlantic Community College. She was past president of the CT Occupational Therapy Association and the N.J. Occupational Therapy Association. As a summer vocation, she spent time at the Pinelands School of Weavers & Potters in Pinelands, NC which led to a lifelong hobby of hand weaving. She was a 2300 hour volunteer at Newcomb Hospital; a volunteer in the Tuesday Dinner Program for the homeless; a member of the Cumberland County Advisory Council of Human Services, the American Association of University Women-Cumberland Branch, the N.J. Conservation Foundation, and Citizens United. She was a member of the First Methodist Church as well as the Lola Nichols Circle and the XYZ group. She also was a member of the Fidelis class, a group which continues from the Pilgrim Congregational Church. Sister of the late Anna G. Kille, she is survived by several cousins and dear friends. Private funeral services were arranged by the Pancoast Funeral Home of Vineland, followed by interment in the Siloam Cemetery.
