Navigation Tips for SOT2-LAKE (genealogy database)

The initial page for SOT2-LAKE is the Table of Contents, https://mlake.net/Lake/HTML/tableofcontents.html
This page lists all the files (each of which are clickable) comprising the database, and all the files comprising the full-name index for the database at the bottom of the list.

There are also four clickable buttons near the top of the Table of Contents page:
Description - click this button to see a description of the SOT2-LAKE database.
Development History - click this button to see a history of the development of the SOT2-LAKE database (most recent update at the top).
Unsure If Related - click this button to see info pertaining to people who may or may not be related to people in the SOT2-LAKE database.
Navigation Tips - click this button to see the file you are currently reading.

Three ways to enter the SOT2-LAKE database:
1. On the Table of Contents page, scroll down to the bottom. Each index filename contains the letter of the alphabet which begins the surname for that particular index file. Click the index file which is of interest. Once the file loads, CTRL-F may be used to search for a particular name. After finding the name of interest, click on a clickable reference number (Family Group) to bring up that family. (NOTE - reference numbers which are not clickable are for people who may still be living.)
2. On the Table of Contents page, click the button labeled "Description". This shows a list of all the immigrants within the SOT2-LAKE database. Click on any of the associated reference numbers to be taken to that immigrant's Family Group.
3. On the Table of Contents page, click on any of the "body" files. The lower the number attached to each of the "body" filenames, the more recent the families.

Once you are within the SOT2-LAKE database all the clickable items are:
1. Family IDs. A Family ID always consists of a number, a period, and another number. The number to the left of the period generally (but not always) equates to a generation number, and the number to the right of the period is a sequential number. Clicking on a Family ID will jump to that family. (Some Family IDs are not clickable, vis-à-vis: the Family ID in the Head of Family line (the first line in a Family Group), and any Family IDs which may point to living people.)
2. Citation References. A Citation Reference is always a number and always enclosed within []. Clicking on a Citation Reference will jump to the associated Citation.
3. File Pointers. File Pointers always contain at least one pair of -> characters. Clicking on a File Pointer will bring up the associated file in a new browser tab.
4. Email Addresses. Email Addresses are enclosed within <>. Clicking on an Email Address will initiate the process of sending an email to that address.
5. Web Addresses. Web Addresses may or may not be clickable, but, if clickable, are always enclosed within <>.

Once within the SOT2-LAKE database, to get back to the Table of Contents click the BACK arrow in your browser's Toolbar as much as is needed.

A word about dates.

Position/column 7 of any date (the position right before the year) may contain a space, 'c', 'd', '<', '>', '-' or 'C'. 'c' indicates circa (about), 'd' indicates double date, '<' indicates before, '>' indicates after, '-' indicates BC/BCE, and 'C' indicates circa BC/BCE.

Only space, 'c' or 'd' will appear on this genealogy Web site. The others are all part of the "date construct" but do not appear here.

A "double date" represents a date which, because of the changeover of the calendar from Julian to Gregorian, can be one of two years depending upon which calendar is being used. England and its colonies changed over the calendar in 1752. A "double date" only applies to dates from 1 Jan to 25 Mar. A "double date" will be shown on this genealogy Web site with the Julian year, however, chronologically it will be shown in a Gregorian sequence in the Timeline. For example, a date shown as "23 Febd1723" (which is a 1724 Gregorian year) will be shown in the Timeline grouped with events occurring in the year 1724.

Also, position/column 12 of any date (the position right after the year) may contain a space or a '-'. A '-' indicates a span of dates. In this case, the '-' will be followed by another date.
