Rachel, but I can't prove that and can't find his link to John, though he certainly was in the area and had connections with John's family. Daniel Everitt's 1807 will names daughter Mary, wife of John Lake, and the 1815/1818 will of Daniel's son, Daniel, names sister Mary Lake.    (Both wills can be found, by the way, at Ancestry.com.)  After many searches, I could not find this John or Mary Lake -- not even a marriage record.  I have been intrigued by the John Lake you also found:  John LAKE, inv made 1808 Alexandria Twp, parents unknown.  Little is known about this John.  He could be the same as the above John who was b c1730. His Y-DNA says he descends from the Gravesend LAKEs (which the above John LAKE does).  He did business across the river in Bucks Co, PA.  He has presumed children:  Zenas and Reuben.  These first names do not occur in any other LAKE families descended from the Gravesend LAKEs, so they may have come from the maternal side. Some of the Hunterdon Co. Everitts resided (as least for a while) in Bucks Co., PA.  And the name Zenas appears generation after generation in the family of Moses Everitt, son of John Everitt (d.1761).  Moses settled in Upper Mount Bethel, Twp., Northampton Co., PA.  (It's interesting that Daniel and Rachel named a son Moses.)  John and Hannah Everitt's son, John, had two known sons, Ezekiel and Darius, and they also were associated with Daniel and Rachel.  (Daniel and Rachel's daughter, Rachel, married Darius.) I wish I could offer you more, but I can't, at least not yet.  Perhaps some new docs will someday surface. Can you tell me who that John LAKE would be? Judging by what you wrote back in 2010 (I didn't save what I wrote, only what you wrote) I expect I itemized all the John LAKE candidates who could have married a daughter of John EVERITT (will made 1756, proved 1761, Bethlehem Twp). It's worthwhile to go through that itemization process again since perhaps I know more now than I did then. By the way, Bethlehem Twp was first mentioned in 1730; before that the area was unorganized.  When Bethlehem was created it bordered Amwell Twp. In 1749 Kingwood Twp was created from Bethlehem, and it took up space between Bethlehem and Amwell.  Alexandria Twp was created in 1765 from Bethlehem Twp. John LAKE, b 1728 Amwell Twp, d 1809, son of Thomas LAKE & Jannetie STRYKER, mar Sarah 1756.  Sarah is presumed to be Sarah Ann ROBINS (1736-1823, daughter of Isaac ROBINS & Asubia ------) based upon circumstantial evidence.  This family always lived in Amwell Twp. John LAKE, b c1730 probably Bethlehem, son of Daniel LAKE.  This family lived in the area known as Kingwood.  Not much is known about this John. He probably paid taxes in Kingwood Twp in 1778 and 1780, and probably witnessed the will of Lazarus ADAMS in 1783 in Kingwood. John LAKE, inv made 1808 Alexandria Twp, parents unknown.  Little is known about this John.  He could be the same as the above John who was b c1730. Those are the only legitimate candidates that I can come up with. (located across the Delaware River from Kingwood Twp.).  This is significant since John Everitt (d. 1808, son/o John and Hannah) had sons Ezekiel (1746-1829) and Darius (d.1822), both of whom resided for a while in Tinicum Twp.  Tax records locate Ezekiel in Kingwood Twp. from 1778 to 1780, and Ezekiel and Darius in Tinicum Twp. in 1781.  (Both listed as Everhart.)  By 1786 Ezekiel had moved to Middletown Twp. and by 1785 Darius to Upper Makefield Twp., Bucks Co.  The 1790 Bucks Co. census lists Ezekiel and Darius Everard.  A series of deeds from 1802 to 1813 place Ezekiel in Middletown Twp., and some of these deeds record the sale by Ezekiel of parcels of his Kingwood Twp. land, purchased from Phillip Cool in 1790.  Most likely one of his children occupied the Kingwood estate.   Rummaging through my early Lake notes, I find, as you already surely know, that a John Lake appears on the 1800 Solebury Twp. census (neighboring Tinicum Twp.) as 1 M and 1 F 26-44y, and 1 M and 2F under 10y.  Tax lists from 1798 to 1804 also place John Lake in Solebury.   In 1810, Rubin [Reuben] Lake appears in Solebury Twp with 1M 45+, 2M 16-25, 1F 26-44, 1F 16-25.  In 1820 Solebury Twp., Ruben Lake is listed with 1M 45+ and 1M 10 and under.  From 1826 on, John and Reuben Lake are on Solebury tax lists.  The 1930 Plumstead Twp. census (near Tinicum and Solebury) lists John Lake with 1M 30-40, 1F 20-30, 1M 0-5, 1M 5-10, 2M 10-15, 1F 0-5, and 1F 10-15.  Sources state John Lake (d.1808) had son Zenas (1770-1842) who married Mary Hartpence (1770-1835), dau/o Johannes Eberhardt Pence and Hannah Kitchen.  The Last Will and Testament of John Eberhart-Pence of Kingwood Twp., written 22 Sep 1801 and proved 8 Oct 1801, names wife Hannah, sons Benjamin, James, Thomas, and Kitchen, as well as son-in-law Daniel Everet (d.1818, son of Daniel and Rachel Everitt).  Daniel Everitt, Jr. m. Sarah Hartpence (1775-1836).  In his 1818 will, Daniel names wife Sarah, nephew John Hartpence (son of Thomas Hartpence), Daniel Evritt Hartpence (son of James Hartpence), and makes bequests to "the surviving children of each of my four sisters," including Mary Lake. One could argue that the John Lake who died 1808 had sons John, Reuben, and Zenas.  One then wonders if John Sr. had married John Everitt's daughter, and John Jr. married Mary Everitt, dau/o Daniel and Rachel Everitt.  Keith Parent -----Original Message----- From: Marshall Lake To: theory Sent: Wed, Sep 15, 2021 1:08 pm Subject: Re: LAKE / EVERITT I'm out of town currently, but I just want to add that the business that John LAKE (d 1808) did in Bucks Co was in Tinicum Township. The 1756 / 1761 will of John Everitt, as you recall, names, among others, three legatees, one of whom was John Lake, whom I suspect married one of John's daughters.  (Daughter Elizabeth married one of the other legatees.)  Further, one of the people who made the Inventory was Daniel Lake (Lib.11, p.465 / Lib.13, p.439).  The 1775 will of Daniel Lake of Kingwood Twp. names his children, including son John Lake, and one of the witnesses was Lazarus Adams (Lib.17, p.255).  John Everitt's will, then, probably referenced a Lake father and son.  And I suspect Daniel's son, John, crossed the river into Tinicum Twp. and neighboring Solebury Twp. in the mid-1790s, perhaps following John Everitt's grandsons, Ezekiel and Darius, there.  The Lake connections to the Everitt clan are many.  For one, Zenas Lake married Mary Hartpence, dau/o Johannes Eberhart Pence and Hannah Kitchen, and Daniel and Rachel Everitt's son, Daniel, married Sarah Hartpence, another dau/o Johannes Eberhart Pence and Hannah Kitchen.  In his 1801 will John Eberhart-Pence names son-in-law Daniel Everet (Lib.39, p.404).  Though I find no proof for this, I think Daniel Lake's son, John, married one of John Everitt's daughters and relocated to Bucks Co. and died 1808, and that John Lake's son, John, married Mary Everitt, Daniel and Rachel Everitt's daughter.  I still don't know how Daniel Everitt is related to John Everitt, but have no doubt they are related. Thanks for the Zenas Lake file.  If I find anything more about these Lakes, I'll surely let you know. Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2021 11:47:53 +0000 (UTC) From: theory To: "marshallelake@gmail.com" Subject: More Lakes I wanted to share some recently discovered info.   Bucks Co. tax records for 1798 Solebury list John Lake, occ. Aaron Quinby.  I assume that means John occupied land belonging to Aaron Quinby.  An Aaron Quinby (1757-1849) married Lydia Balderston (1759-1820) on 15 May 1782 in Buckingham, Bucks Co. [neighboring Solebury Twp.].  By 1802 Aaron and Lydia had moved to Chester, PA, and the Quaker Mtg. records for Chester state Aaron and Lydia came from Buckingham, PA  with seven children (named in the record).   Aaron Quinby was the son of Isaiah Quinby (1716-1807) and Rachel Warford (1723-1777).  A well-documented history of the Barcroft family states that John Barcroft (1724-1795), son of Ambrose Barcroft (1681-1724), married Hannah and had seven children.  John's father, Ambrose, lived in Solebury Twp., about a half mile southeast of Carversville.  He drowned in the Delaware River.  Among John and Hannah Barcroft's seven children was son Ambrose, who in 1771 married Phebe Quinby, dau/o Isaiah and Rachel (Warford) Quinby.  Further, John and Hannah Barcroft's daughter, Elizabeth, married Reuben Lake, and daughter Hannah, married Thomas Lake. Thus, John Lake (possible husband of an Everitt) lived near Aaron Quinby, whose sister, Phebe Quinby, married Ambrose Barcroft, son/o John and Hannah Barcroft.  And Ambrose's sister Elizabeth married Reuben Lake, and his sister Hannah married Thomas Lake. Zenas and Reuben were, it seems, both sons of John Lake, but this Thomas Lake is new to me.  I don't know if he is of this same Solebury family, or if Hannah married into a Hunterdon Co. Lake family. By the way, Uriah Bonham (1724-1809), who appears in these documents, had a grandson, Uriah Bonham (1791-1859), who in 1818 married Elizabeth Everitt, daughter of Ezekiel Everitt (1746-1829) and Mary (d.1768).  Grandson Uriah Bonham was the son of Amos Bonham (1752-1817) and Rebecca Rittenhouse (1758-1830), daughter of William Rittenhouse. -----Original Message----- From: Marshall Lake To: theory Sent: Thu, Sep 23, 2021 8:12 pm Subject: Re: More Lakes Thanks for sharing, Keith. I spent some time rummaging through my files looking for anything on a Thomas LAKE in the area of Solebury Twp in the right time period and came up empty. It stands to reason that Thomas was Reuben's brother since it happened often where siblings from one family married siblings from another family. But, of course, it could also be that Thomas is from another LAKE family. (There are as many Thomas LAKEs in Hunterdon Co in this time period as there are John LAKEs!)  There was also a LAKE family in Philadelphia from which Thomas could be.  I have not researched the Philadelphia LAKEs other than to assume they came from the south Jersey LAKEs.  The Philadelphia LAKEs worked in the shipping industry as did many of the south Jersey LAKEs. One thing I came across while rummaging which may be pertinent ... There is a John LAKE (c1745-1834 Burlington Co, NJ) who married Mary HALL (c1745-after 1839 probably Burlington Co) c1778 in Kingwood Twp.  The only child I know for them is Elisabeth (b c1780).  I'm not aware of the parentage for this John LAKE.  In a pension file for John LAKE there is a mention of an unnamed sister living in an adjoining county in NJ (probably Hunterdon).  According to Snell, Mary HALL is the daughter of Theodore HALL & Gertrude GORDON (married 1729), and John & Mary lived in Kingwood many years.  (According to my research they show up in Burlington Co by 1818.) Luther OPDYKE was the administrator of John LAKE's (d 1808 Alexandria) estate. According to Marfy Goodspeed (a Delaware Twp, Hunterdon Co Historian) Luther OPDYKE married first Gertrude HALL, daughter of Theodore HALL and Gerturde GORDON, making Mary HALL & Gertrude HALL sisters. It was good hearing from you and knowing that you're continuing the search for an answer to the John Lake enigma.  Over the years I've tried may approaches to Lake and checked many documents, but have found nothing beyond what you've also found.  I haven't visited the NJ State Archives since Covid hit and don't know when I might return.  Some day, hopefully, Lake will surface.
