A little history.  We were having problems with people changing our John Lake to the John Lake that was from a royal line.  I was prompted to look for some immigration records for both.  I found records that said that the other John Lake went to Barbados and then found one saying John Lake came to long Island in 1645.  A couple of years later I did some more research on the Long Island immigration record and found the source was secondary and a conclusion had been made that couldn't be verified.  This has stopped me as I haven't been able to find any primary records for immigration as of yet. The second screen shot enclosed shows the line I had back to Sir Francis Leake.  I found a reference that he had a son by a mistress.  I felt that as this son grew up he finally left his residence, moved west and married and changed his name to Lake, but this is all conjecture.  It felt good at the time and I still feel it is possibly correct. Perry had told me that we can't prove by DNA that our John Lake of Long Island came from Barnstaple; however we can't prove by DNA that he didn't. I am hopeful that with these new records we can do better at making a connection that is correct. I have felt to follow Perry and leave the parents of John Lake vacant, thus encouraging others to do more research and possibly find an accurate source for his parents. I will try sometime in the near future to look at the new records available and see what I can find.  Hopefully others will be doing the same. May the Lord bless you in all you are doing to help find our people.
