Some obscure information regarding people in this database 12 Jun 2026 Abraham Lake (16.0) was probably born in or near Hampton, Hunterdon County, New Jersey out of wedlock to an unknown mother. See Reference->16.txt for futher info. Where or by whom he was raised is unknown. There is no mention of Abraham in any records for his assumed father, John C. Lake (28.0). Update - Recently I came across information that may indicate that Abraham Lake (16.0) may be an illegitimate son of Abraham Lake (109.0) which would make him a brother of John C. Lake (28.0). In fact, this may be more likely than Abraham Lake (16.0) being an illegitimate son of John C. Lake (28.0) (see Speculations.txt for further info). Marshall Lake (4.0) and Maria Thayne (5.0) were married on 31 Jul 1886. Their first child, Cleveland John (3.1), was born on 21 Nov 1886. One of my (Marshall Edward Lake (1.0)) first jobs was as a dishwasher at the restaurant inside the Grand Way in the Binghamton Plaza on State Street in Binghamton, New York. This would have been about 1968. A fellow by the name of Alan Kishpaugh (perhaps 3.312, child i) became my boss shortly after I started working there. Years later, after I began doing genealogy research in about 1975, I discovered that Alan Kishpaugh was my cousin. Neither one of us knew that at the time I was working in the restaurant. The Battle of Bennington took place on 16 Aug 1777 and was a possible turning point in the American Revolutionary War. The battle may have been fought, at least in part, on land owned by John Lake (110.2), Jacobus Lake (110.9), Nicholas Lake (110.31), Thomas Lake (110.3) and Arent VanCorlaer (spouse of 110.32). Nicholas Lake (110.31), John Lake (110.2) and Thomas Lake (110.3) were Loyalists. Nicholas Lake (110.31) may have been mortally wounded while participating in the Battle of Bennington. Like many other Loyalists, their land was taken from them during or after the American Revolutionary War. There is an unverified story that Nicholas Lake (109.11), who had a family in Albany County, New York, killed a police officer and fled to Monroe County, at the time Virginia, now West Virginia. In Virginia he remarried and had a second family. There is an unincorporated community in West Virginia called Lake which was supposedly named for Nicholas Lake. John Johnston was a mountain man. There was a movie called "Jeremiah Johnson" starring Robert Redford which was based loosely on the life of John Johnston. John Johnston was born William Garrison (17.121, child i). Sarah Lake (109.218, child iv) was courted by Cornelius Vanderbilt (before he was a shipping magnate), but her father, Joseph Lake, didn't think he was good enough for her and sent him away.
