BEGIN Cornelius Prall Birth: 1732 Hunterdon County New Jersey, USA Death: Feb., 1813 Hunterdon County New Jersey, USA Cornelius Prall was born ca. 1732 in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey and died ca. Feb, 1813 in Hunterdon County, New Jersey about the age of 81. His first wife was Rebecca Garrison, daughter of John Garrison and Hannah --. His second wife was Sarah Sutphin, whom he married ca. 1781. She was a widow, daughter of Jan Sutphin and Peternella (Pietemella, Penelope) Stout. His third wife was Christiana Lucretia Provost -- Catterlin (1756-1837), whom he married on Mar 6, 1803 in the First Presbyterian Church, Cranbury, New Jersey. She had been twice widowed. Christiana was the daughter of Jonathan Provoost and Adrianna Springsteen, granddaughter of David Provoost and Christina Praa, greatgranddaughter of Capt. Peter Praa and Maria Hay. Cornelius grew up on the family farm on the west side of Neshanic Creek about 1 mile from present-day Reaville. He and his first wife Rebecca moved onto 19 ¾ acres on Back Brook in 1772 and built a grist mill. Rebecca died about 1780, leaving Cornelius with seven minor children. He married Sarah Stuphin ca. 1781 and sold the Back Brook land in 1784 to Abraham Williamson and moved to Tewksbury Township where the family resided near Germantown (Oldwick). He bought land in Kingwood Township near the Amwell and Kingwood line and in 1791 moved his family there. According to Tewksbury tax ratables, Cornelius operated a saw mill, grist mill, and farm over the next several years. He moved back to Amwell in 1797, sold out in 1799, and reacquired the land in 1800. There was some problem at the time with an arrest warrant. Cornelius was involved in numerous legal actions and apparently fled to avoid arrest. In 1797, Cornelius sold his 175 acres in Kingwood Township to Thomas and Rachel West and acquired 143 acres in Amwell Township from John Strickland on the north side of the Neshanic River about a mile east of Copper Hill. Cornelius sold 15 acres in 1799 to Aaron and Anna (Prall) Stout and purchased about 90 acres from the Stouts in 1800. Sarah died in 1800. After he married Christiana "Lucretia" Provoost Catterlin in 1803, they lived on her farm near Bentil's Brook, East Windsor Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey until the land was sold in 1809. They moved to Amwell where Cornelius died without a will in 1813.
