BEGIN George W. Lake NY, IN, MI father was Niklus Lake By Stacey Phillips July 17, 2005 at 07:31:59 I am searching for the parents and siblings of George W. They had the following children: Sarah Emma m Charles West Lewis Parker m Katherine Ellenwine & Ethel Williams Dora Augusta m John Mangold Elizabeth Moorie m Byron Otwell Oliver Leroy m Ethel Cheveriel Rosa A. m James Kern children who died before adulthood were Orson, John, Harry, Edward, Charles,S, Melona, Alavest. Re: George W. Lake NY, IN, MI father was Niklus Lake By Annette Truesdell July 19, 2005 at 05:15:47 Stacey, Some time ago, there were postings to this forum made by Debbie Hinz regarding her ancestor, Mary Lake Moon. Mary Lake and her brother, Charles Lake were the children of a Nicholas Lake. Debbie said that per Mary Lake Moon's obituary, she also had a brother "D.W. Lake" who lived in Three Oaks, MI. I have tried to email Debbie at the address from these postings but it is no longer a valid address unfortunately. I believe that your George W. Lake may be the same person as the "D.W. Lake" living in Three Oaks, MI. Your George W. Lake lived in New Buffalo, MI which is just a stone's throw away from Three Oaks. My guess is that there was a typographical error in the obit and it should have read "G.W." instead of "D.W." The fact that you indicate that George W. was the son of a "Niklus" Lake" and "D.W." was the brother of Mary Lake Moon, a daughter of a Nicholas Lake is too coincidental for me, given the proximity of New Buffalo to Three Oaks. I believe that you and Debbie are looking for the same Nicholas Lake. I believe that your Nicholas Lake(4) was the son of Nicholas Lake(3) and Matye/Mattha [Martha] Tealor/Taylor, who was baptized 28 Jan 1780 per the Schagticoke DRC records. I have spent a long time sorting thru the many Nicholas Lakes in NY and by a process of elimination of the ones that we have a known record for, it is a reasonable conclusion that this Nicholas Lake is yours. The Lake family that lived in Rensselaer and Washington counties in NY came from Middlesex Co., NJ. They were the brothers Henry, John, Thomas, Nicholas Jr(2), and Abraham Lake. Their brother, Jacobus also participated in purchase of the land grants but never removed to NY, rather he sent his son, Garret to settle his NY lands. The are all the sons of Nicholas Lake(1) and Mary Janszen. I have researched this family for many years and can place most of the "Nicholas Lake"s in the correct family line. The one line that is the most problematic is the line of descent from Nicholas Lake Jr (2). He was killed in the Battle of Bennington during the Rev War and there are very few (to almost no) records available to identify his family. We have had to rely on the process of elimination based on what we know about the descendants of his brothers, and the time frame in which they lived. Since there appear to be no unrelated LAKE families living in Rensselaer and Washington counties between 1760-1800, we can assume that the LAKEs found in any of the land, probate, church and military records from this area during that time frame are part of this family group. LAKE, George MI By genealogy.com user April 17, 2001 at 08:42:59 Im new to all of this and Im very curious. Is there anyone out there who can help me learn where the Lake family came from? Whats the meaning of the name? Im also looking for relatives of George lake or George Lake JR from Michigan. Re: LAKE, George MI By Diane knight May 01, 2003 at 11:58:53 There was a George lake who was married to a Louisa McCarty. I believe Louisa was born abt 1824 in Cayuga NY. She died Nov 28 1869 in Hilldale co. Mi probably in Camden Twp. I suspect George Lake may have died in Hillsdale co. too. I'm not sure where they married as Louisa also may have lived in Indiana before coming to Mi. I'm related to the McCartys. Could this be one of your Georges? Re: LAKE, George MI By Van booth April 23, 2001 at 05:04:52 I don't know if the George Lake and George jr. Could be that their middle name could have been Victor and if this is information that you have I can give you a little information on that part of the Lake family. They were a large family from the stata of W.Va. If you think there might be a connection let me know. My E-Mail address is Re: LAKE, George MI By Michelle Langham August 28, 2005 at 06:00:49 I have a George William Lake that was born 3/10/1861 I think in Holland, Michigan (this is where his son my great grandfather was born).
