From: "Sara Hoffman" Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2012 16:22:29 -0700 BEGIN I don't think any of us are exactly who we may think we are & once we get into genealogy & DNA we start to see some things we never expected. I discovered that a story passed down in my family was actually true that one of our ancestors was the descendant of a white man in SC & his African slave. This was Jacob Laws who married Rebecca Lake daughter of Abraham & Eunce Lake. You can find Jacob & Rebecca Lake Laws in the Lake Genealogy book. I have the story written but will keep it under wraps until I'm gone due to the ill will I know it will cause with relatives. I tried talking about it with family members to see if how comfortable they were with it & they were very upset that I would even mention the subject. I figure as time goes by opinions change on race & it won't matter to future generations. People should know the truth about their heritage, it is what it is whether we like it or not. I don't have a problem with it. Both of my parents were Jacob & Rebecca Laws descendants. I'd like to get a Laws descendant to test to see what family that may match or if Laws was the name of the white ancestor. There isn't any Laws willing to talk about the history so until I can find one the DNA is on hold.
