I'm up to my eyeballs in southern New Jersey Lakes that I saw on a recent trip to the Port Norris and Haleyville cemeteries. Problem is, I can't begin to figure out the relationship to Elizabeth Lake who married Jacob Trout, my g-g-g-grandparents. Here's what I have from the stones at those two yards: 1) Joseph L. Lake, 1888-1954, and Carrie J. Lake, 1890-1986. Same stone, Joseph L. Jr., 1925-1944, "He died in the service of his country near LaHavre, France USS Miantonomah Sept 25, 1944." 2) Charles W. Lake, "my husband," Aug. 13, 1858, Oct. 27, 1891. 3) Mary B. Lake, daughter of Charles B. and Frances Lake, died Oct. 17, 1862, aged one year, seven months, 21 days. 4) Burgen C. lake, somn of Charles B. and Frances Lake, died March 15, 1860. 5) J. Hammit Lake, 1854-1948. Mary A. Lake, 1856-1891. Charles D. Lake, 1886-1908. Mabel P. lake, 1882-1889. C. Lawrence Lake, 1884-1885. Frances R. Lake, 1888-1945. 6) Rebecca E. Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By genealogy.com user July 17, 2000 at 09:57:26 I have a Lake Geneology book which lists most of the people listed here. If any more info is needed, please e-mail me with ?'s. If you are related to these Lakes, then you are related to me and (more importantly to you, I'm sure) to Simon Lake who did much for the modern submarine and his father who ivented roller shades. There is a new book out based solely on Simon Lake. Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By genealogy.com user December 31, 2001 at 07:16:53 In note that you are related to Simon Lake.I believe that I am too but I am stuck on my Lake side of my family. I am the great grandaughter of Rachel E. Lake (b. 31 mar 1888) who married Charles L. Ireland. Rachel's father is Henry Lake or L. Henry Lake of the Atlantic County, New Jersey Area and he was married to Anna Gay. I know that Simon Lake (the submarine inventor) is also related (a cousin possibly?) but I am stuck on Henry Lake. I've looked around the net but without the direct connection between Henry Lake and Simon I am stuck. Lisa Ireland Tuohy Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By Sandra Stephens November 10, 1999 at 06:25:39 Who is this Jacob Trout? Do you have dates on him? Always looking for Trouts - my earliest is George, b. 1791 in Lincoln Co., NC. Any connection? Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By genealogy.com user November 11, 1999 at 06:26:28 Best I can do on Jacob Trout, where my trail runs cold, is his being born in 1801 in Cumberland County, NJ. No idea on his parents, but this brick wall, too, will fall. Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By Sara Robbins Hoffman November 08, 1999 at 05:09:48 The Lakes you name from the Port Norris/Haleyville cemeteries are descendants of Elizabeth Lake Trout's half-brother Samuel Lake. Who was Gertrude Trout? She lived in the house next to the Robbinstown School, possibly 1920 or 30's. The place is known as the Trout House. Do you have any information on these Trouts? Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By genealogy.com user November 11, 1999 at 06:24:57 Thanks for your reply. I'm good on the Trouts that go to Jacob, b: 1801, NJ. Direct line only, at this point. Am stumped on Jacob's parents. I am descended from Jacob Trout, via son Samuel P. Trout, his daughter Adeline Trout, who married Samuel Alcorn, b: 1875, NJ. Sound like we have anything in common? Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By Diane Albee June 11, 2005 at 10:36:10 My husband is a distant cousin of yours, descended from Jacob Trout b. 1801/Elizabeth Lake b. 1805 through their daughter Mary who married RJ Tribbett. Have you ever found out who Jacob's parents are? I have info on the Lake going back to England (Edward b. mid 1500s England). Elizabeth Lake descends from the John Lake (sp. Ann Spicer)who was one of the proprietors of Gravesend, Long Island, NY which became Brooklyn. I don't know much about the Trouts and any help would be appreciated. Diane Albee dianealbee@hotmail.com Re: Lake-Up to my eyeballs in NJ Lakes. Help By Elsie Smith August 29, 2002 at 11:36:30 Jacob Trout/Elizabeth Lake are my GGG Grandparents. I am decended from their son Job T. Trout, his son Charles. I would like information on the family from other branches. I only have names of Jacob & Elizabeth childrens, no decendants of those children other then Job T. I too have not found Jacobs parents. Elizabeth Lake Trout, b. 1805, NJ By genealogy.com user March 24, 1999 at 05:05:22 Elizabeth Lake, b. 2/15/1805 married Jacob Trout. They lived in Downe Township, NJ. The Lake Book lists some of their children, but not all and the information is incomplete on the lines of the children.Hopefully the second book will include the missing. I have additional information if anyone is interested in the descendent information. If anyone can provide documentation for the date and place of her marriage, or any info on the parents of Elizabeth or Jacob, I would be glad to receive. Re: Elizabeth Lake Trout, b. 1805, NJ By genealogy.com user April 01, 1999 at 11:04:28 Elizabeth Lake and Jacob Trout are in my family line. Elizabeth's birth date of Feb 15, 1805, supplies a missing piece of information for me. I, too, am stumped on Jacob Trout's birth date and location, as well as the date of their marriage. Jacob would have been my g-g-g-grandfather. I have more info on a son of his, Samuel P. Trout, including Civil War information, pension, marriages, etc. If you haven't checked already, plug Jacob Trout's name into the Ancestry World Tree. If accurate, you can trace the Lake name back to about 1511 or so. That's some line. Stanley Craig's Cumberland Co. Marriages, p. 86. He is buried in the Dividing Creek Baptist Cemetery birthdate 12-29-1801 d. 11-13-1870. Elizabeth's parents were Robert L. Lake and Mary Moore. You can check the Lake Book for this. I'm not a Trout descendant but related to the Lakes and had this information in my files so thought it might help you.
