She is, assuredly, not the dtr. of Abraham and Altje Barbanck Lake. From the poking and prodding, and digging which I have done, I have concluded that she is probably going to be a descendant of Henry and Alice Lake. The key may be Brownell Lake as he lived in Washington as did Desire and Henry Lake. I would like to correspond with Dutchess Co. Lake descendants in an effort to narrow the possibilities. I would, of course, be willing to exchange what information I do have. By tracy lake-mitilineos August 27, 2004 at 07:26:59 Which Brownell do you speak of since their are so many of them? She was b. 19 July 1772 perhaps in 9 Partners, Dutchess Co., NY d. 23 March 1855 in Solon, Cortland Co., NY. She m. Jonanthan Brownell 28 August 1788 in Dutchess Co. Some of their children were b. Sally Chirlin --------------------------- I have no Desire or Abram/Abraham Lake on my family tree, but do have a Brownell. Smiton Brownell Sr, b. Feb 13, 1690 or 1691, died Feb. 12, 1737 or 1738 married a Margaret Mancester. They had two children, Smiton Brownell Jr. and Tabitha Brownell. Tabitha was born in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island in 1718, and she married a Joseph Lake. Joseph is part of a line which began Massachusetts, then moved to Rhode Island, and later New York State, possibly in the Albany area. Dear Lake kin, I found the parents of my Desire Lake Brownell, wife of Jonathan Brownell!! Both of them were born in Dutchess Co. in the 1700s. I'd gotten almost all the pedigree on Jonathan but only knew that Desire was dau. of Abram Lake and so have been looking for her mother and other info for years now with no luck. I was in the historical society in Cortland, Cortland Co. New York, and knew that Jonathan and Desire had spent their old age with one of their sons, David Brownell, in Solon, Cortland Co., NY, died and were buried there. But I'd never thought of looking over there for more information. Casually, just before it was time to leave, I asked the historian for a Brownell folder if she had one. She brought me a thin file with a few sheets, neatly written, by a descendant of David Brownell, brother of my Stephen Brownell. I was only moderately interested, figuring that the author of the papers was a descendant of David but never thinking I'd see anything new. But as I was glancing at what was written about Jonathan and his wife Desire, I almost tipped over in my chair. Desire's parents were there just as casually as you please, source given as Bible records. Her father was indeed Abram Lake and her mother was ALTEJA BURBANCK. So, now if any of you out there know anything about Lake-Burbanck connections, please let me know. They seem to hail from Staten Island in the 1700s. Sally, What a wonderful find. It certainly makes things tough when these folk decide to pick up and leave a place with no forwarding address! Yes, this Abram/Abraham Lake was from Staten Island. His baptismal record is found in the NYG&BR, vol 37-2, pg 130. "26 Mar 1731 Abraham to Joseph Lake and Aaltje Barbank. wit. Jan Barbank and Lea Hagewout." Some records also name her as "Elshe Burbank". It would appear that his wife and mother had the same/similar name. The marriage date I have for Abraham and his wife Altje Burbank is 7 Jul 1761. From "Gen of Lake Fam", Adams/Risley, pg 21, it says that they had as children Cornelius, Alida and Joseph. I would suggest, however, that any data from this book be supported by other evidence since no sources are cited. Joseph Lake was the son of Abraham Lake and Classje Langestraat/Longstreet. His baptismal records are from the Port Richmond DRC, NYG&BR, vol 36 pg 181, "Joseph son of Abraham Leeck. Wit. Barent Marlin and wife". This Abraham Lake was most probably the son of Daniel Lake of Gravesend by a first, unnamed wife. Classje Longstreet was the daughter of Dirck Stoffel Langestraat/Longstreet and Katrina van Lieuwen. I'll send you what I have in a gedcom. Again, great news that you've finally found them. I know you've been looking for quite awhile.
