Date: Mon, 11 May 2020 14:26:47 -0700 From: Annette Truesdell BEGIN From my notes regarding Henry Lake, son of Nicholas and Mary Janzen Lake: BIRTH: Per H. Stryker-Rodda research, "named for his maternal grandfather, was probably born c1716.  No record of baptism in Gravesend church records." Birth date estimated as 1714-19, based on assumed age of parents and birth dates of his younger brothers and sisters.  Neither date has been confirmed from records.  Named "eldest son" of Nicholas Lake in father's will. MARR:  Mary Hui, Gui or Gowey/Goewey.  "NJ Marr Rec 1665-1800", pg 235,  W. Nelson, pb 1967.  It is also assumed from her being listed as a witness along with Henry of several baptisms in the Freehold and Schaghticoke Dutch Ref Church records.  Their only known child is Nicholas Lake, named in Henry's will.  There may have been other children but none has been identified to date. DEATH: Will written 2 Mar 1799, Town of Hoosick, County of Rensselaer, NY.  "appoint, and ordain my friend Garet Lake (note - Garret Lake was Henry's nephew and a son of Jacobus Lake) of Cambridge, County of Washington and State of New York Afors-d my Executor to this my last Will and Testament.) Viz I give and bequeath unto my Beloved Wife Mary all and Singular my Lands mefsuages and Tenements with all my Household furniture, Goods, Chattles, Debts and moveable Effects, which I may have at my decease In the aforesaid Town, County and State Afores-d or elsewhere, during her natural Life, .. And at the decease of the said Mary my Wife, I do leave and Bequeath unto Nicholas, Polly, Hannah and Henry Leake, Children lawfully begotten by Henry Leake Junior my Grandson; All and singular my lands, Mefsuages, and Tenements, Goods, Chattles, debts and moveables Effects; that may remain at the decease of the said Mary my Wife." ..I also leave  and bequeath unto Nicholas Lake my son, the sum of One dollar and Twenty five cents..." wp 27 Jun 1799.  Wit.  Aaron T. Luskens, George Bowen, Elisabeth Cornell. LAND: 1753 - listed as a Freeholder in the 1753  Western Precinct of Somerset Co. "Gen Mag of NJ," v.18, No. 1, Jan 1943, pg14. 1763 - probably same as found on list of freeholders found in "Chronicles of New Brunswick" pb in 1867 as being the list of freeholders when Mayor William Ouke took office in 1763. LAND RECORDS:  Reprint from "The Capitol" v.8, pg 143, 24 Mar 1762.  10,000 acres commonly called Mapletown Patent, (note: or Schneider/Snyder Patent) bounded north by Van Zandt and west by Hosick Patent.  Patentees Hendrick Schneyder; John Wetteck; Hendrick Lake; John Johnson; Garret Williamson; Nathaniel Ackerly; Benjamin Abbet; William Taylor; Martinus Voorheis; Daniel Hallenbeck.  In the choosing of lots in this large grant of ten thousand acres, Lot 2, No. 26 and No. 54, were held by lease, which lot No. 2 fell to Henry Lake. But one Crean Brush held some sort of lease of this part of the grant, so Henry secured a "release of Lots No. 2, No. 26 and No. 54 part of a tract of land in the County of Albany. Dated 25th day of Sept. 1762." CREAN BRUSH TO HENDRICK LAKE - Lease of Lotts No. 2, No. 26 & No. 54 part of a Tract of Land in the County of Albany - Dated 24th Sept. 1762.  "This Lott Number Two being laid out for one hundred and Sixty acres be it more or less... Lott Number Twenty Six began containing one hundred and sisty acres of Land... Lott Number Fifty four first began Containing one hundred and Sixty acres of Land. LDS film 46993, v.II.  22 Mar 1786 - between Henry Lake, Maple Town, yeoman, Albany Co. and Peter Van Ostrander for L85; part of lot #2, 100 acres, east side of Hudson River, part of tract of 1000 acres of Hendrick Snyder Patent which was dated 24 Mar 1762.  Wit: G. Quackenbush, John Johnson.  Henry Lake, Mary Lake, their mark.  Recorded 14 May 1795.  (Note:  area of Hoosick previously known as Mapletown/Mapleton). LDS film 46993, v. I 28 Feb 1794 - between Henry Lake of Hosick, Rensselaer Co.  and Robert Patton for L30; lot #2 of Snyder Patent containing 17 acres and 24 rods; wit. John Ryan, Henry Snyder.  Henry Lake, Mary Lake, their mark.  Recorded 3 Mar 1794. 22 Jan 1798.   "Abraham & Garret Lake have this Day received of Henry Lake a Deed or Conveyance for the Lott of land whereon the said Henry Lake now resides in Trust for the said Henry Lake and Mariah his wife... wit.  Luke Quirk, Thos. Sickels, Elizabeth Cornell.". CENSUS:  1790 Albany Co., NY. Most probably the "Henry Lake" who is listed in the Hoosick Town census who has one slave in the household.  The enumeration reads:  Henry Lake, 2 males +16 (prob Henry and his grandson Henry Lake Jr); 1 male -16  (unknown); 2 females (prob Mary and Henry Jr's wife Sarah McNeal); 1 slave.  The assumptions for the identification are the affection that Henry shows towards the family of his grandson from the bequests in his will and Henry probably being wealthy enough and aged enough to afford and need a slave.  The other Henry Lake of Hoosick being most probably the son of Thomas Lake and Michal Williamson based on known information about them. NOTE:  Administrator of his mother's estate, "Mary Lake of Wight Kreek, Albany Co." found in "Genealogical Data from Administration Papers from the NY State Court of Appeals in Albany", Dr. Kenneth Scott, pub 1972, pg 183.  "6 Nov 1783 - Administrator,  Henry Lake, farmer, son of deceased.   Bondsman:  Henry Lake and Nicholas Lake, farmers, and Cornelius Waldron, cordwainer, of Albany Co.  wit. John Shipboy, Francis Follet". I have no further info regarding Mary Gui since I never got on that track to research.
