You probably know that Henry Trimmer was also married to Margaret Lake, d/o John Lake (1728-1809) and Ann Robins (1736-1823). Or at least I think he was. It doesn't look like John and Ann had a daughter Dinah, but you have to wonder if Margaret and Dinah were related. William must have been born about 1740, based on when his children were baptized. But it looks like he wasn't a cousin of John's. This is the information I have on William Lake, in case you want to add it to what you have-- That daughter Mary was, I think, the daughter of Wm. Lake and Else Hann, daughter of Peter Hann and Elizabeth Hoppock. Which explains some of what follows: William Lake: 1780 Jan, Taxed on 130 acres [Amwell ratables]. 1781 Sued by the State of NJ in NJ Supreme Court [#36629]. 1790 Taxed as a householder [Amwell ratables]. 1804 Sold 1/4-acre lot to Peter Hann, bordered Joseph Thatcher [Dd 15-420]. 1811 Bought 13.5 acres from Thomas and Catherine Lake, bordering Athneal Gordon and the Swamp Road [Dd 19-048]. 1812 See First Hann Division, pg 71 Partitions. 1813 Sold Lot 10 (Hann division) to Jacob Rake [see Dd 23-105]. No estate in Hunterdon Index. Clearly, this is an Amwell William. Perhaps Wm. of Kingwood moved to Amwell after his father's death. A child of William > and Mary, William, married Elizabeth TRIMMER (b 1799, d 5 Mar 1882 Larison's > Corner, Hunterdon Co, NJ, dau of John G & Catherine TRIMMER). I see the 1850 census has Henry Trimmer 82 and wife Dina 82. And William Sergeant, son of Mary Lake, administered Henry's estate in 1852. Going back further, Henry administered the estate of John Lake dec'd in 1809 and in 1810 was executor of "friend" Thomas Lake's estate. Thomas was Henry's son. So, Henry must have been a son-in-law of John Lake. Thing is, I have a note that says John Lake's bible identifies Henry's wife as Margaret Lake (b. 25 April 1770). I have a Dinah as the second wife of Henry Trimmer, born 10 Nov 1767, died 25 Jun 1858, buried in the Lower Amwell Old Yard. That birth date is perfectly compatible with the baptism date of Dinah Lake, d/o Wm. & Elizabeth. I don't know when Margaret Lake died, so I don't know when Henry and Dinah married. And Dinah could have had a husband prior to Henry too. But the circumstantial evidence is pretty strong. The subject of Mary Lake and William Sergeant requires a separate email. I have a lot to say on the subject, starting with the fact that Mary was William's mother, not wife. Died age 78 years 5 months, 19 days [Lake Bible]. Date: Thu, 4 Jun 2009 10:48:13 -0400 The plot thickens. The Henry Bird who administered the estate of Thomas Lake was probably the Henry Burd who married an Ann Lake about 1775, was taxed in Kingwood in 1785, belonged to the Kingwood Baptist church and died 1815 in Amwell. His wife Ann should have been born about 1750-55; her children were born 1776-1786. This Ann could have been a daughter of John Lake (b.c.1723 Gravesend, NY-aft 1780) and Mary Hall. The only child I have for them is Mary Lake b. 17 Dec 1749 Amwell, married to Josiah Moore (I believe I got her from you). I'm assuming she is not Ann Lake, d/o Daniel Lake; that Ann married Absalom Runyon who died in 1809. But consider this: Daniel Lake of Gravesend & Kingwod (1696-1775) had a son John about whom we have very little information. The John Lake born in 1723 could be his son, especially since he too ended up in Kingwood (I have him dying intestate in 1808 in Alexandria, but paying taxes in Kingwood 1780-97). On the other hand-- The estate is for Thomas Lake Sr. Let's just say he was Ann Lake's father, and the other Thomas Lake who was fbm for Henry Bird was her brother. I need a Thomas born c.1725 or earlier, and the only one I've got was Thomas b.c.1718 Long Island, died 1787 Kingwood. His wife Eleanor's will was dated 24 Dec 1789 and did not name an Ann or a Thomas as children. Hm. I can see why you're frustrated by the Kingwood Lakes. So I'm inclined to go with John Lake as Ann's father rather than Thomas. The Thomas who died in 1793 would have been John's brother, and Ann's uncle . If they were living near each other in Kingwood, that would be connection enough for Henry Bird/Burd to manage Thomas' estate. Here is what "PopCarpet" wrote: 1685 J Thomas Lake Feb 7, 1799 of Kingwood admin. by Henry Bird sworn at Flemington to - cash rec'd - Margaret Lake, Thomas Lake, John Lake... signed Thomas Lake and Henry Bird I fear Pop was careless. In my notes I have the inventory of this Thomas Lake taken on Nov 21, 1793, and administration granted to Henry Bird on Jan 6, 1794. An account by the administrator was filed on 24 Oct 1798. I don't know where Pop got the date 7 Feb 1799. I'm in NJ right now and my NJ Archives books are in DC. I will double check this when I get back there next week. Then there is the cash received by Margaret, Thomas and John Lake. Were they the widow and children or was Thomas unmarried and the cash going to his siblings? There is that court case referring to Thomas Lake and wife Margaret, who were clearly in debt to Richard Riley in 1789, and maybe had to go to debtor's prison. So, now we've got a Thomas Lake Sr. with possible wife Margaret and possible sons Thomas and John. Or John might be Thomas' brother, father of Ann Burd. Note, a Richard Reiley sold 10 acres in Amwell to James Emmons in 1792 [Dd 18-081]. Emmons was probably the one who made the inventory for Thomas Lake Sr., who owed money to Reiley/Riley. I'm working on a spreadsheet with a column for Amwell Lakes and one for Kingwood Lakes, trying to see if it helps me sort these families out. So far, it's just confusing me more, but if I get it to work, I'll send it along to you.
