If not, what is your best guess? I finally got an opportunity to speak with our consultant last night about your question above. Since he is an architectural historian, I had him evaluate the picture I sent you of the Hainesburg Hotel. He said he believes that although the building could possibly have some late 18th century elements, it appears to have been expanded after its original construction, and as a result, makes it a bit more difficult to date. He mentioned the modifications may have been done up to as late as 1870. In addition, he is in the process of researching Hainesburg to nominate the village to the State and National Registry of Historic Places. He mentioned to me that so far, it appears that there was only one Hotel in Hainesburg during the early to middle 19th century. So, my guess is, your ancestor's establishment was the only game in town. Paul Sullivan Knowlton Township Historic Commission END "Kirkbride's New Jersey Business Directory" Stacy B.
