Date: Mon, 11 May 2020 15:10:23 -0700 From: Annette Truesdell BEGIN Milt (3.2276, child i) was able to document his line back to both the Garret Stryker Lakes from family records and documents. My notes for Garret Stryker Lake (Sr.) b. 22 Dec 1802: BIRTH:  Letter dated 22 Jan 1910 from Garret S. Lake (Jr.) to Benj. Lake Noyes.  Records of Patricia M. Keyes as found in Lake/Leake Newsletter Vol II, No.1, March 1995. MARR:  Almira Eaton. DEATH:   Letter dated 2 Jan 1910.  Also, Lakeview Cemetery, Howell, MI, Sect C, #15 Cemetery record.  Will at Livingston Co. courthouse.  Was a Brickmaker. LAND: 28 May 1836, 40 acres SW quarter of southeast quarter, Sect 4 per Tract Book entries, Howell, MI. 28 May 1836, northeast quarters, Sect. 9.  1837 Land Patent for 40 acres Sect 7, sold in 1839; NOTE:  per "History of Livingston Co., Michigan" - "Among the first of those who came to make their homes in the township [Howell] in the year 1836 were Henry Lake and Garret S. Lake, two brothers from Mount Morris, Livingston Co, NY who came with their families to settle in Howell in June of that year.  It is recollected by the few who remain of those who were here at that time, that when these two families arrived at the place where the Grand River road crosses the Shiawassee River, they found that the rude and frail log bridge which had previously been thrown across that stream had been swept away by a recent freshet, and as the river was too much swollen for fording they were compelled to build a raft, on which their wagons and household goods were slowly and tediously ferried across, while their teams were forced to swim to the opposite shore... Garret S. Lake, the younger of the two brothers who came here in 1836 settled on the Shiawassee River, on the northeast quarter of section 9... There he lived in the comfort of an independent farmer's life and there he died.  On this farm, in 1838 he manufactured the first bricks made in Howell township.  His son, Garret S. Lake, is now presiding elder in the Church of the United Brethren, and is living in Charlotte, Eaton Co., MI. NOTE:  In the July 1850 census for Howell, MI, under Almira Lake, a Wm D. Lake is listed.  Prob a nephew and son of Henry Lake, Jr. and Clarinda Bonfung.  Prob living with Almira to keep the farm because Garret had died in 1845.  William was listed as being 23 and born in NY.   The next in line is Henry b. 1770, father of Garret Stryker: BIRTH:  Feb 1770.  Records of Patricia M. Keyes as found in Lake/Leake Newsletter, Vol II, No. I, March 1995.  Also, letter of Garret S. Lake to Benjamin Noyes, dated 22 Jan 1910.  Named as grandson of Henry Lake in his will dated 2 Mar 1799. MARR:  March 1789 Sarah McNeal per family records. DEATH:  Patricia has listed his death date as 1815 in Ames, Montgomery Co., NY.   This is probably incorrect as the Henry Lake living in Ames, Montgomery Co., NY was the son of Thomas Lake.  Shirley Jarmuloski's records cite death date of 1815 but Cayuga Co., which agrees with letter from Garret S. Lake.  Letter does contain some erroneous information so further evidence is desirable.  Other than Garret Lake's letter, no other date or place of death has been found at this time.
