On Feb. 21, 1841, she was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam, NY. She first married Squire Alexander Waterbury, who died on January 16 1849. From this union she bore him four children, three were listed in the 1850 census: Stephen R. Waterbury, Andrew C. Waterbury and James W. Waterbury. Their fourth son, David B. Waterbury died on 21 February 1849. On 15 October 1850 in New York City, the widow Jane A. Waterbury married Erastus Ellsworth Scofield, of Stamford, Connecticut. It was his first and her second. To this union were born two sons, Hon. Edwin Lewis Scofield (1852-1918) and Frederick Stanton Scofield who died in infancy. According to the 1870 US Federal Census Mortality Schedules taken in June 1870, Jane, a housekeeper, died of pneumonia at the age of 47. Her date of death was recorded as December (1869) The Daily Advocate Friday, January 7, 1870: "Deaths. Scofield-- In Stamford. Dec. 24, Jane A, wife of E. E. Scofield, aged 47 years."
