from "The 300th Anniversary of the Gravesend Reformed Church", Rev. Kenneth Howard Kerr, 1955 BEGIN A parsonage which had long been a necessity now began to attract the attention of the congregation. On September 21st, 1844, a committee was appointed by the Consistory to choose a site and proceed with the erection of a suitable building thereon. The land was bought of John I. Lake and Ann, his wife, and the building was erected by the carpenters, Lawrence and Jacobus Ryder- plain, unpretentious, but commodious and comfortable, and still stands a monument to the memories of those dear men who constructed it. I don't have them in my file. I had my friend several years ago take a photo of my LAKE family tombstone (William Tilden Lake, Sr.., born 1824 NJ, and died 1893 Brooklyn, NY) at Greenwood Cemetery, B'klyn, NY, and while there he took a photo of another LAKE tombstone (John I. Lake & Ann Stillwell-wife of John I. Lake, and Agnes N. Lake-prob. daughter?). Does anybody know who they are??? Descendants of John I. Lake Generation No. 1 1. JOHN I.1 LAKE was born Apr 04, 1812 in B'klyn, NY?, and died Dec 03, 1885 in B'klyn, NY?. He married ANN STILLWELL. She was born Sep 09, 1803 in B'klyn, NY?, and died Jul 31, 1875 in B'klyn, NY?. LAKE: Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, B'klyn, NY Tombstone: Yes-large dogs@peoplestelecom.net (Marianne Green) According to Familysearch.com they married Dec 1832 in Gravesend, Kings Co, NY. Another file just list's a submitter but no further info. From: "T.S. & A.F. Truesdell" Dirck/Derick Lake and Maria Voorheis of Gravesend had a son, John. He is named in Dirck's will, wd Apr 1795, wp 3 Nov 1800. John was born 17 Nov 1760 according to info found in a copy of an old Dutch paper, origin unknown, written in Dutch that appears to have been written by Derick Lake. It names his children and gives their birthdates. I received a copy of this document from Richard McCool (email address: mccool.13@pop.service.ohio-state.edu). This John Lake (son of Dirck) is assumed to have married Elizabeth Benhem, called widow of John Lake per Wm. H. Stillwell's Hist of Ref Prot Dutch Chr of Gravesend, pg 49. Wm. H. Stillwell's Hist of Ref Prot Dutch Chr of Gravesend, pg 63 cites a baptism of a child but does not name the child 28 May 1812 to John and Elizabeth Bennum Lake, parents. Born Apr 4. Now, if we take this information and compare it to the birth date of John I. Lake from his headstone, he would appear to be a match to the child born to John Lake and Elizabeth Benham. Since this family lived in Gravesend it seems a probable match.
