from ancestry.com 6 Dec 2021 BEGIN John H Lake info Early LDS Church John H. Lake moved to Mariposa, Victoria, Canada, with his parents in 1832. In 1856 he settled at Shabbona Grove, DeKalb, Illinois. From there he moved to Lee County, Iowa, and then to Etna, Scotland, Missouri, where he worked as a carpenter. John was baptized and confirmed a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 13 December 1860 in Etna by John Shippy. He was ordained a deacon on 14 December 1860. In March 1861 John returned to Lee County and united with the String Prairie, Iowa Branch. He was ordained an elder on 21 June 1863 in String Prairie by John Shippy and Thomas Dungan. John was appointed to preside over the Keokuk, Iowa Branch, but served in that position only three months before leaving for Hannibal, Marion, Missouri, to take charge of the district. He then returned to Iowa, where he presided over the String Prairie and Nauvoo District for several years. On 10 April 1871 he was ordained a seventy at Plano, Kendall, Illinois, by Edmund C. Briggs, Josiah Ells, and Archibald M. Wilsey. In 1873 he was ordained an apostle in Plano by William W. Blair, Joseph Smith III, and Jason W. Briggs. In 1875 he moved from Vincennes, Lee County, to Farmington, Van Buren, Iowa. In 1902 John was released from the Quorum of the Twelve and on 20 April 1902 he was ordained an evangelical minister by Joseph Smith III and John W. Wight.
