Park 1798–1871 END From: "RICK NOVAK" Date: Sat, 11 Feb 2006 22:47:35 -0800 BEGIN Although my link to David Johnston is 'unproven' by primary documentation, this is what I do know. I've been able to trace my ancestry back to John Teeter (the owner of the mill you mention near present day Califon) and his wife Hannah Parke (1795-1865). The Parke family genealogies strongly suggest that Hannah was the daughter of Alexander Parke (1765-1828) and his first wife Mary Elizabeth Johnston (1775-1800). Mary was a daughter of David Johnston and Margaret Nixon (again, primary evidence is lacking). If your Samuel Johnston was Mary Elizabeth Johnston's brother, he would have been Hannah Parke Teeter's uncle, thus keeping the sale of 'Teeter's mill' in the family. It's interesting that today there is a Teetertown Nature Reserve that includes ruins of the mill. Note also that TV personality Merv Griffin once owned the site of Teeter's mill. Here's a link: http://www.co.hunterdon.nj.us/depts/parks/guides/Teetertown.htm#history John and Hannah Parke Teeter are buried at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church near Schooley's Mtn (just across the county line in Morris County) and I found their grave marker a few years ago. John's mother, Catherine Huffschmidt Teeter (c1762-1834) (and possible mother to Susanna) is buried at the Lower Valley Presbyterian Church yard just outside of Califon and I saw her marker a few years ago as well. It was one of the oldest in the cemetery. I don't know where Mary Elizabeth Johnston Parke is buried but her husband Alexander Parke and his second wife Theodosia Lake removed to Chemung County, NY around 1816 and he is buried at the Austin Hill Cemetery in Erin TWP, Chemung Co. John Teeter (and his mother) was originally from Knowlton Twp in what is now Warren County and his father Elias Teeter is probably buried there.
