As told to John William Kuhl (3.358, child i) by Searle William Lake (3.101) c1972 (between 1970 and 1975): BEGIN Enoch Cool [spouse of 9.82] owned a cow which freshened in the fall that Searle's parents had their first child, a son [Homer G. Lake (3.159)]. The mother's milk did not agree with the child, so his father [Searle as the youngest, was not yet born] went to Enoch to buy the cow. Enoch wanted $30 cash money. Searle's father pleaded with him but he did not have the money and Enoch would not let him have the cow. When he went home he told a neighbor about the whole affair. The neighbor lent him the money and even sent along his hired man to help bring home the cow. Enoch Cool, at the time, was a man of considerable money. Searle's father told Enoch he would ache to see the day when he could buy and sell Enoch because of the way he had treated him, not letting even a relative have the cow on credit in order to save his baby's life. Some time later Enoch was the victim of a sharpie who sold him some gold colored bricks and he died a much poorer man than he had been.
