BEGIN Sgt Stanley William Loughlin Laughlin Birth 14 Feb 1928 Death 4 Dec 1948 (aged 20) New Jersey, USA Burial Lower Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery Harmony, Warren County, New Jersey, USA Memorial ID 14527766 · View Source Easton Express Loughlin Stanley William 12/6/1948 p.1 Phillipsburg R.D.Vet,20,Victim of Crash At Belvidere Thirteen persons including a 20 year old U.S.Air Force veteran.of Phillipsburg R.D.2,died in accidents in New Jersey over the weekend.Nine of the fatatallties were results of traffic mishaps.Four persons died when a pre dawn fire swept a home yesterday in South Plainfield.Fatal crash the AirForce veteran died instantly when his car hit two trees in Water street Belvidere,early yesterday morning.Stanley William Loughlin,son of Mr.and Mrs.Eugene Loughlin,of Belvidere pike,near Roxburg,was the victim of the Belvidere crash.Police said he failed to negotiate a curve at the entrance to Water street a short time after he had left the scene of a collision on Route 6,less than two miles away. Loughlin was pronounced dead on arrival at Warren Hospital,where he was taken by the Belvidere Ambulance Corps,Warren County Physician N.O.Marlett,of Belvidere who treated Loughlin at the scene,said that death was due to a fractured skull and internal injuries.The accident occurred at about 2 a.m.as Loughlin was entering Belvidere.The left front of the car struck a tree across the street from the Veterans of Foreign Wars home.The impact swung the vehicle around and it crashed broadside into another tree about 30 feet to the west.The car was completley demolished as it wrapped itself around the tree.Police Chief William Moser,one of the first persons to reach the scene,helped extricate Loughlin from the twisted wreckage and called Dr.Marlett. Goodwill Fire Co,also was called when wires near the tree short circuited.Troopers Lawrence Sangi and Thomas Holmes,of the Washington state police station,who were called to aid in the investigation,reported that Loughlin's car bore registration plates with the same number as that reported to them to have sideswiped an automobile operated by Carl Johnson,of 1940 Lehigh street,Easton,in front of the Ranche hotela short time earlier.State police said Johnson told them he had pursued the car until he obtained the license number. Loughlin was discharged from the Air Force as a Sergant on Nov,8,after serving 26 months as a power man in Europe .He enlisted on Jan 11,1946,after attending Belvidere School.In addition to his parents he is survived by a sister,Miss Marilyn Loughlin at home;his maternal grandmother;Mrs.Ernest Smith,of Phillipsburg R.D.2,and his paternal grandmother.Mrs.Etta Loughlin,of Phillipsburg.Funeral services for Loughlin will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m.at his home,with the Rev.Charles T.Theal,pastor of Harmony Presbyterian Church,and Rev.Lewis J.Grotenhuis,pastor of Calvary Community Church,Harmony,officiating.Interment will be in Lower Harmony cemetery.
