Gere Swayze-Davies Birth 1908 Death 2011 (aged 102โ€“103) Burial Saint Helena's Cemetery Oneida, Madison County, New York, USA Memorial ID 58170256 ยท View Source SHERRILL - Helen Swayze Davies, 102, formerly of Sherrill and Wampsville, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in the Rosewood Heights Nursing Home, Syracuse where she had been a resident for the past one and one half years. Born in Ithaca on Dec. 6, 1908, she was a daughter of Oscar and Stella Mack Gere. A resident of the area since 1934, she was educated in the Ithaca schools. She married Willard C. Swayze in Ithaca on Jan. 19, 1927. Mr. Swayze died April 7, 1963. She later married Gordon "Skip" Davies in Dewitt in 1967. Mr. Davies died March 1992. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the former W. T. Grant Co. of Oneida. She was the previous owner and operator of a family luncheonette and gas station in Wampsville. Mrs. Davies was a member of the Christ Church, United Methodist, the Wampsville Presbyterian Church and the church's ladies auxiliary, the Home Bureau, the Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Star Chapter No. 21 and the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed crafts, bingo and traveling. Surviving are one daughter, Beverly A. Allen of Fayetteville; a daughter-in-law, Jean Swayze of Sherrill; six grandchildren, Diane Cornish and Frank Armstrong, Melody Allen and Wendy Allen, Amy Jones and Scott Swayze; seven great-grandchildren, Christy Casamento, Josh Cornish, Robert Sansone, James Sansone, Jonathan Patterson, Christin Patterson, and Camden Silas Jones; three great-great-grandchildren, Blake and Ella Casamento and Adeline Liberty May Munn. She was predeceased by a son, Richard W. Swayze on Nov. 21, 1998; a daughter, Phyllis Armstrong; one brother, Richard Gere and three sisters, Mildred Hornbrook, Alice Gere and Dorothy Gere. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday at the Christ Church, United Methodist, Sherrill with the Rev. Chris Kinnell, officiating. Interment will be made in Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, 2-4 p.m., Saturday.
