He was born in Franklin County, August 2, 1881 and died October 11, 1945 at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 9 days, a son of Conrad and Elizabeth Mann Gress. Survivors, besides his widow, are two children, one son, Fred Gress, U. S. Navy and one daughter Alma Horton of Wells Tannery, Pa., and three grandchildren. One brother, Oscar Gress of McConnellsburg, PA. Three sisters, Mrs. Russell Rummell of McConnellsburg, Pa., Mrs. Mary Snyder of Pasadena, California, and Mrs. James Acri of Harrisburg, Pa. Mr. Gress was married twice, first to Mary Mellott and after her death to Bessie Mellott, who survives and two children to this marriage. Mr. Gress was born and lived his entire life in this community. He followed the trade of painting and paper hanging for 46 years. His funeral held at the Gress Funeral Home was one of the largest attended funerals ever in McConnellsburg, His frequent associates in his trade won him a host of sincere friends who will miss him greatly. His memory shall linger long in our midst. Services Sunday at 2:30 P.M. were officiated by Rev. Thomas P. Garland, close friend of the deceased. Burial was made in the St. Paul's Reformed Cemetery in McConnellsburg I the family plot. Musis was furnished by the Wells Valley Quartet.
