from Richard Alan Lindaberry (0.144) in 1992 ... BEGIN George was born on April 6, 1882 in Fairmount, New Jersey and married Edith Mabelle Davis on September 26, 1903. Edith was born on May 4, 1878 and is the daughter of John Davis (1844 - March 30, 1919) and Harriet Perry (1850 - November 25, 1921). Edith, known as "Mae", was born on the Davis homestead on the Island in Pottersville, New Jersey and baptized in the Pottersville Dutch Reformed Church on December 7, 1879. Edith died in 1969. George took over his father's store in Pottersville and ran it until his retirement in 1954. He was one of the very first Esso Standard Oil dealers in New Jersey. Esso awarded him a 50 year Gold Clock in 1954 in recognition of his service. George was one of the original founders of the Peapack-Gladstone Bank in 1921 which today (1992) is a full service, successful bank with its main office and banking facilities in Gladstone, New Jersey and having many branch offices including the original Lindaberry store (1973). He served on the board as its vice-president until his death in September of 1964. He also was the longest Board of Education chairman in the history of Bedminster Township, serving for over 35 years. Along with running the Lindaberry's Blue Knot Store he held an insurance broker's license, a real estate license, and was a Notary Public. He directed the maintenance and operation of the Pottersville Water Company for 30 years. He was one of six founding officers of the Pottersville Volunteer Fire Company and served as its secretary for many years. At his store he was the Pottersville Postmaster for over 50 years. He had the nickname of "Mr. Pottersville" for he knew everyone and everyone knew him. George and Edith lived in the large apartment over the store and all three sons were born there. In 1923, to the rear and north of the store George built a new home which became the family homestead, the same structure Richard Lindaberry (0.144) and his wife reside in now (1992). Edith taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She was the first president of the newly formed Ladies Auxillary in 1926 and held the post for 10 years. She was the church organist for 30 years and prior to that was a substitute organist and choir director. He was born above his father's store. John used the surname Lindabery (one r) rather than Lindaberry as his father did. He attended the Bedminster elementary school system in Pottersville graduating from Somerville High School in Somerville, New Jersey. He attended Rider College in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey and then joined the Johns Manville Company in Manville, New Jersey. While working at Johns Manville he went on to Pa. I.C.S. and enrolled in mechanical engineering. After 9 years of night school he received his degree. John married Cora Tiger on June 24, 1939. They divorced. John remarried Helen Drake of North Plainfield, New Jersey on November 17, 1944. Helen was born on October 2, 1914 in Oak Tree, New Jersey and is the daughter of Charles Drake (May 12, 1881 - 1954) and Florence Caroline Long (born May 8, 1891 in North Plainfield, New Jersey, died January 2, 1950). John was employed at Johns Manville for 39 years to early retirement in 1972. John and Helen lived for over 25 years in their home on North Spring Street in Somerville. Helen worked for the Somerset County Clerks Office for 19 years. Upon her retirement John and Helen moved to Deerfield, Florida in 1973. Helen still resides there (as of 1992).
