    From The Files Of October 1, 1970

    ’70 A Three Springs trucker escaped serious injury early last Thursday
    morning when his tractortrailer truck careened down the mountainside
    at the dangerous Cape Horne curve on U.S. Route 30, on the east slope
    of Tuscarora Mountain. Franklin James Wagner, 27, was admitted in an
    unconscious condition to Chambersburg Hospital for treatment of head
    and thigh injuries after his rig was demolished.

    Former Gov. William W. Scranton has named a Hustontown resident,
    J. Robert Cutchall, as chairman of the 1970 Citizens for Scott, Brodercik,
    Scalera Committee in Fulton County.

    Sgt. Malcolm Ray Foster, formerly of Wells Tannery and Saxton, was
    fatally injured on Saturday in a head-on automobile accident at El Paso,
    Texas. Foster, a son of C.C. and Marjorie (Buckley) Foster of Wells
    Tannery, died at the William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso. A
    career man in the Army, Sgt. Foster was en route to his home in El Paso
    from Fort Bliss at the time of the fatality. He had been in the service
    for 17 years.

    Mrs. Ethel Decker and Mrs. Frances Reed recently returned home from
    a European tour, during which they visited Holland, Germany, Italy
    and Switzerland.

    Marriage licenses: Robert Lee James of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Kay
    Frances Diehl of Chambersburg; Edgar C. Mellott of McConnellsburg and
    Lucinda Mae Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg.

    Dr. and Mrs. Robert Riggs spent the weekend in Somerset where his father
    is seriously ill in the hospital.

    Mrs. James H. Shultz keeps record of the rainfall from a rain gauge in
    her backyard. Over Saturday and Sunday, the gauge showed that 2.7 inches
    of rain had fallen in Mc- Connellsburg, most of it on Saturday night.

    Deaths: Mrs. Georgetta Comerer Daniels of Hagerstown; Deborah Louise
    Sigel, Needmore; Floyd Ritchey, Breezewood.

    Births: a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ulsh of Mc- Connellsburg on
    September 20; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Patrick Kelso of Warfordsburg
    on September 21; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ramsey of McConnellsburg
    on September 24; a son to Mr. and Mrs. James Morris Jr. of Hancock on
    September 25.

    The Pentecostal Church of McConnellsburg was the scene of an impressive
    wedding ceremony on September 2 at 2:00 p.m., which united in marriage
    Miss Eliza Jane Cook and Jerry Andrew Clippinger. Parents of the couple
    are Mr. and Mrs. Jere Cook of Fort Littleton and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
    Clippinger of Wells Tannery.
