Lake Bruce O. Lake, aged 59 years, of 54 High street, Montrose, died on Thursday morning, Sept. 19th, 1946, in the Hahnemann Hospital, Scranton, where he was admitted the preceding day. Mr. Lake had been in failing health for the past nineteen months. He was a son of Erastus R. and Etta Chase Lake, and was born in Bridgewater township October 8, 1886. He lived in Springville many years, where he conducted a barber shop. A man of pleasing personality and widely known in this section, his unexpected death was received with sorrow by his friends. He is survived by his wife, Mabel; a son Kenneth at home, and a sister, Mrs. Florence MacMicken, of Los Angeles, Calif. The funeral was conducted in the Bush Funeral Home, South Montrose, Saturday afternoon at 2:30, the Rev. Philip N. Pitcher, pastor of Springville Methodist church, officiating. Interment was in So. Lake, 62, Castaic, California, died Tuesday, November 4, 1986, in Granada Hills, California. His wife is Lois Lake. Born in Springville, he was the son of Mable Lake, Montrose Square, and the late Bruce Lake, a Springville barber, who died in 1949. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the First Baptist Church of Castaic. Also surviving is a stepson, Walter Fratus, Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Memorial services were held Sunday, November 9, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Castaic, with the Rev. Charles Edward and the Rev. Thomas Price officiating. END From a Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania newspaper in Sep 1987: BEGIN Mable L. Lake, 82, of 15 Church St., Montrose, died Saturday, September 12, 1987, at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock. Her husband, Bruce O. Lake predeceased her in 1946. Mrs. Lake was born in Dimock Township, Susquehanna County, daughter of the late Merrit and Ida (McLaud) Comstock. She was a telephone operator, using a switchboard in her home in Springville for many years. She was a post master in Springville also. Before retirement she worked at the Commonwealth Telephone office in Montrose. In 1951 Mrs. Lake moved to California, returning to this area in 1969. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Ernest Lake in 1987. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mildred Beeman, R. D. 1, Hop Bottom; one niece, three nephews; several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. END From "Springville Township 1800 - 2000, Book 2" by Susan Bennett-Dyson in 2010: BEGIN Springville in the Early 1900's Thanks to Ester Leslie and Dorothy Conrad Dorothy Conrad, was born in Sanky, (by the Auburn Township line near Lynn) Susquehanna County in 1896. Dorothy and her mother moved to Springville to live in the early 1900's. In the early 1990's Esther Leslie asked her who lived where in Springville when she was young.
