Ephriam R Mellott was licensed to preach by The rays Hill and Southern
Pennsylvania Christian Conference in 1923. He preached at The Pleasant Grove
Church in 1923 and 1924.  At one time in the early 20th century he had an
extensive apple orchard on his farm. He also operated a sawmill and had
a chute constructed to carry the logs down the East side of Sideling Hill
Mountain to the sawmill.  In the 1920's he was the resident farmer at the
Carversville, Pa. orphanage which was directed by Rev. Thomas Peter Garland.
He made a point of stating that the R in his name did not stand for any
middle name.
