She was born July 29, 1889, in East Providence Township, a daughter of the late William H. and Mary Amanda (Bottonfield) Mellott. She was married to Bruce H. Barton who preceded her in death on March 14, 1963. Surviving are the following children: Hazel B. Brambley, of Star Route, Breezewood; M. Leone, wife of John A. Remsburg, of R.D. 2, Warfordsburg; Bernard C. Barton, at home; B. Jane, wife of Harold Gipe, of Chambersburg; and Shirley E., wife of Ralph L. Remsburg, of R.D. 2, Warfordsburg. Twelve grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by an infant son and nine brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. During his lifetime, Mr. Barton earned many titles. From 1943 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, attaining the rank of sergeant, Military Police Platoon, 66th Infantry Division. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the M1 Rifle Expert Badge. In 1945, he received a Certificate of Merit for Meritorious and Outstanding Performance of Military Duty. He finished his military service in 1949 after serving three years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Active in township government, Mr. Barton was a Brush Creek Township official for 50 years, serving as a supervisor for 18 years and secretary-treasurer for 49 years. He was also president of Fulton County Association of Township Officials for six years and served one term as first vice president. Mr. Barton voted in every election from 1946 to the time of his death. He had a keen interest in local history and belonged to the Fulton County Historical Society. He was a member and supplemental member of the Sons of the American Revolution. From 1963 to 1970, Mr. Barton was secretary of Crystal Spring Campmeeting Association. For 30 years, he was secretary of the Crystal Spring Burial Association and served 35 years as treasurer of McKendree Cemetery, and he sat on the board of directors. He was also a board member of Union Memorial Cemetery Association. Mr. Barton was a 41-year member of the Fulton County Veterans Administration Flag Committee. Mr. Barton was born May 6, 1923, in Brush Creek Valley, Fulton County. He was the son of the late H. Bruce and Edith H. (Mellott) Barton. Surviving are four sisters: Hazel B. Brambley, Breezewood; M. Leone Remsburg and Shirley E. Remsburg, both of Warfordsburg; Jane B. Gipe, Chambersburg; and many loving nieces and nephews. An infant brother preceded him in death. Rev. Delmas Bard will officiate at an 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, September 2, at Crystal Spring Campground. Friends may call at the Tabernacle from 10 a.m. until the service. Mr. Barton will be interred at Union Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Everett Honor Guard.
