Frey moved away from the Wayne County, New York area sometime after 1880, and on May 1, 1898, he married Lucy Harriett Pixley, the daughter of Eben Pixley and Emily Abi Seely, in North Bend, King County, Washington. Lucy lived only one more year and died from tuberculosis at the age of 25 years on November 18, 1899 in Valley Springs, Minnehaha County, South Dakota. Edward lived for some time in Seattle, then by 1905 he moved on to Oregon and by 1925, he had moved to San Diego, CA., where he resided at 4535 Iowa Street with his second wife, May Belle Hagaman Frey. He died November 8, 1929 of heart disease at the age of 66 years. The funeral was conducted at the Merkley Funeral Home in San Diego and he was cremated at Greenwood Crematory on November 12, 1929.
