END transcription of Newspapers->Misc->3.302.jpg From The Lincoln County Record, Caliente, NV in Feb, 1998: BEGIN Happy Birthday Flo Kishpaugh Maybe her pioneering spirit came from sharing the same birthday as "the Father of Our Country", George Washington, but from whenever or whatever, Flo Kishpaugh (OUR MOTHER) has ALWAYS Had, what can only be called, REAL spunk! Born in 1903, the 7th child of New Jersey vegetable farmers, she was introduced early to the word work... and has since worked a great variety of jobs, seen a great many places and participated in some of historys' most unforgettable moments. Having lived since the first term of Theodore Roosevelts' presidency, gone from horse and buggy days to witnessing mans' first steps upon the moon, it is almost too much of a task to highlight even her most memorable moments. As a child she remembers well the country doctor driving a sleek, black buggy with isinglass, as well as helping her mother go fro [sic] farm to farm, in the more rugged farm wagon, to perform the duties of midwife. She is one of the very few, living individuals who has seen Halley's comet twice...her mother awakening her to view it for the first time when she was only seven. At nine, she met and shook hands with Woodrow Wilson, one year before he was elected president. She was a teen in the teens, left the farm to work at her first job, boarded at a boarding house for 1.50 a week and bought herself the one thing that she had always wanted as a child but never received, her very first doll! She was a young wife with two small children in the roaring 20's, struggled through the "Great" Depression of the 30's, was one of the "famous" working women of the war in the 40's (worked in an ammunition factory... also started a 'second' family giving birth at the age of 42), helped build a profitable business (literally from the ground up) in the 50's, started over (being newly widowed) in the 60's, did a little bit of everything (news columnist, Civil Air Patrol, published her long researched 'genealogy' book, etc.) in the 70's, relocated from Florida to Nevada in the 80's (drove alone at an age when most have given up, thinking their life at its' end)... and she's been going full strength throughout these past eight years of the 90's (making all who meet her question the fact that she TOO is in HER 90's). Today (February 22) she is 93, has had three children, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild... a very rare six LIVING generations. We celebrate her longevity, but maybe it is her strength and vitality (her refusal to give up those things considered for the YOUNG alone) that we SHOULD be commemorating? She IS an amazing woman! NEVER OLD IN OUR EYES MOM... With Love, Connie, Tom and Flo (written and contributed by her children). Everyone in the community is cordially invited to help celebrate the 95th Birthday of Flo Kishpaugh of Pioche. The party will be held on Sunday, February 22, 1998 from 1 to 3 pm in the Lighthouse Community Fellowship church (at the top of Main Street). It is potluck, so please bring a covered dish if possible.
