Joan Elizabeth Lake, 74, of Randolph, New Jersey, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on January 4th. She was born in Morristown, New Jersey, where she grew up on Dorothy Drive. Joan was predeceased by her father, Harry Stilwell; her mother, Evelyn Pierson Stilwell; and her sister, Nancy Williamson. She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Joseph A. Lake. Joan was a devoted and caring mother to her son, Joseph C. Lake, and her daughter, Katherine M. Harris, and loving mother-in-law to Michele R. Lake and Zachary D. Harris. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kelly Harris and Matthew Harris, who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her brothers, Johnny Stilwell and William Stilwell, and her sister, Sandy Atkins, along with many extended family members and friends. Above all else, Joan’s life was defined by her love for her family. She was a deeply caring and devoted mother whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. She generously gave her time as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, helping to serve others in her community. Joan was a graduate of Morristown High School. Joan found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—spending time with her beloved husband, enjoying walking around Morristown and at Horseshoe Lake, soaking up the sun at the beach, sharing an occasional margarita, and watching movies surrounded by family. Her gentle spirit and loving heart will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held at Doyle Funeral Home on Sunday, January 11, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Prayers to Joe, her children and beautiful grandchildren. I didn’t see Joan enough especially after Joe’s retirement. Could’ve, should’ve would’ve are always in the fore front. But sending hugs and my deepest condolences to the family. Ricki 4 days ago Joe, Katie and Joe: I am so saddened to have read your post a few days ago. To lose your life partner in such an unexpected way is beyond comprehension. For Katie and Joe C. Your father is an honorable man and was an exceptionally brave soldier having been wounded on November 16, 1969. I proudly served alongside of him in Vietnam. May our Gold grant you some comfort during this most difficult time! I love you my warrior friend. Bob Anderson Michigan Bob Anderson END
