END transcription of Newspapers->Marriages->3.34.jpg Probably from a Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania newspaper in November of 1940: BEGIN Burke-Lofstrom A very pretty Fall wedding was solemnized on Saturday evening, November 16, at 7:30 o'clock when Miss Virginia Lofstrom, daughter of Mrs. Bess Lofstrom and the late Frederick Lofstrom of 104 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, N. Y., was united in marriage to Ambrose W. Burke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Burke of this place. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Thomas Monahan in the rectary of St. Joachim's Church. The attendants were Miss Regina Burke, sister of the groom and Edward Dougherty of Meshoppen. The bride was charmingly attired in a street length dress of royal blue velvet with blue velvet hat and matching accessories, and her corsage was of white pompons and gypsophilia. The bridesmaid's gown was of soldier blue velveteen and blue accessories and she wore a corsage of pink rose buds. The groom and his attendant wore the conventional dark suits. Following the ceremony a sumptuous wedding supper and reception was tendered the bridal party in St. Joachim's parish hall, at which point a hundred and fifty guests were present. The evening was pleasantly passed with music and dancing and the newlyweds received many beautiful and useful gifts. At a late hour the happy couple departed for a short wedding trip and after November 16 they will be at home at 6 Hamilton Street, Binghamton, N. Y. The bride who is one of Binghamton's Popular young ladies has been feted with many pre-nuptial parties there and the groom who is a graduate of Meshoppen High School holds a responsible position with the Endicott/Johnson Shoe Manufacturing Company. A basket dinner was served and the afternoon and evening were spent in playing cards and other games. Burke, RD 2, Auburn Center, Meshoppen, passed away, June 19, 1984, at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, PA. following a long illness. She was born in Binghamton, March 8, 1918, daughter of the late Fred and Bess Slocum Lofstrom. She was employed by Bendix Corp. in S. Montrose, PA for 25 years, before her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church of Auburn. She is survived by her husband, Ambrose Burke; two sons, Gerald E. and William A., both of Auburn Center; five brothers, Stanley, Earl, Edward, Fred and Carl Lofstrom, all of Binghamton; four sisters, Mrs. Jane Smith, Mrs. Annette Jones, Mrs. George (Iris) Lusick, and Mrs. Hubert (Phyllis) McGavin, all of Binghamton; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Burke was the husband of the late Virginia Lofstrom Burke, who passed away on June 19, 1984. Ambrose was a graduate of the Meshoppen High School, class of 1932. He later owned and operated the Ambrose Burke Farms, a dairy farm, located in Auburn Center, Pa. Ambrose loved his farm and cattle, he also loved to listen to music and dance. Ambrose was a also [sic] very proud of his Irish heritage, traveling to Ireland numerous times. He was a lifelong member of the St. Joachim's and St. Bonaventure's Roman Catholic Churches in Meshoppen and Auburn Center, Pa. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society.
