[sic] Graham is on his way home. His return was made possible under the army's point system. Sergeant Graham served as ordnance section chief, furnishing bombs for B-25s, which blasted enemy installations and pounded Jap fortifications to rubble. The Crusaders, veteran outfit of the jungle air force, started at Guadacanal in the early days of the way. They bombed and strafed their way through the Bismarck, Archipelago, New Guinea, the Dutch East Indies, Borneo and the Philippines. They began the war at the Battle of Midway and the end came at the beginning of a strafing attack on Jap resistance pockets on Luzon. Broome County Sheriff's Department deputies at the scene tentatively identified the injured as Kenneth M. Beirne and Patricia Beirne, both of Quaker Lake, Brackney, Pa. Both were taken to Binghamton General Hospital. Deptuies were unable to provide the nature of their injuries. The accident occured [sic] shortly after 1 a.m. Deputies could not provide details of the crash. The vehicle was traveling south on Park Ave., ended up in a culvert, and smashed into a fence. Kenneth M. Beirne, 31, of Box 53, Quaker Lake, Brackney, was in critical condition last night in the intensive care unit of Binghamton General Hospital. His wife, Patricia Beirne, 31, was listed in serious condition at General Hospital. Broome County sheriff's deputies said Kenneth M. Beirne was driving south on Upper Park Avenue at 12:49 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the road near the intersection with South Stevens Road. Beirne and his wife were both unconscious when deputies arrived at the accident scene. They said an investigation of the accident is continuing. Regina is survived by her daughter, Patty Graham Beirne, of Danbury, CT; her daughter and son-in-law, Peg and Dave Hellenga; her grandchildren Kurt (Meaghan) Hellenga, Sean (Nadia) Hellenga, and Amy Hellenga; her great grandchildren Ryan, Andrew, Zoryana, Aidan and Madison; several nieces and nephews; many great nieces, nephews and cousins; and her good friend, Mary Calcagnini. Regina retired from the Endicott Trust Company as a Loan Officer. She was a long-time member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Endicott. Family was the most important thing in Regina's life. She loved her family, her faith, and her Irish heritage. She traveled to Ireland twice to visit relatives and research her heritage. She enjoyed Irish music, dancing, and humor. Her hobbies included reading and crossword puzzles. Regina loved her trips to Tioga Downs Casino. The family wishes to thank the staff at Elizabeth Church Manor for the care they showed Regina.
