Blass Manager of local state stores before retiring Michael L. Blass, 72, of 509 W. Second St., Berwick, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born April 1, 1932, in Hazleton, he was a son of the late John Blass and Lena (Fedullo) Blass. A graduate of Berwick High School Class of 1950, he then attended Penn State University for three years. On Aug. 26, 1950, he joined the U.S. Army, serving as a sergeant first class during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Army Commendation Medal in Germany. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Berwick, where he served on the Christmas decorating committee. Mr. Blass was the manager of the Berwick and Bloomsburg state stores where he was employed for 30 years before his retirement. He was a loyal trustee and member of the Catholic War Veterans. Among his interests were cooking and gardening, and he was especially dedicated to his family and grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his daughter, Michelle Marshman, who died Oct. 30, 1994. He was happily married to his wife of 46 years, the former Roberta Kishbaugh, whom he married Oct. 11, 1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church by the Rev. F. M. Mongelluzzi. Surviving are two sons: Michael L. Blass of Berwick; and Thomas and his wife Valerie Blass of Berwick; one sister, Lucille, wife of James Whitmire of Berwick; one brother, Joseph A. Blass of Berwick; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Michael Marshman, Grant Joseph Marshman, Madalyn Diane Marshman, Beau Michael Blass, Rachael Marie Blass, Thomas Jacob Blass and Danielle Nicole Blass, all of Berwick. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today from the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 p.m. Thursday from St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Dennis G. Dalessandro, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Berwick Public Library, Second and Chestnut streets, Berwick, PA 18603 or the charity of choice. END
