She asked me to provide a brief history of his service. My dad's military career is very interesting and the subject of another project I'm working on. He started his career in the 102nd Calvary in Newark, New Jersey riding horses as a weekend warrior. When the war started, he was assigned to the invasion of North Africa providing headquarters security for the general command. He worked for General Mark Clark in Italy, and was literally the first one in Rome. He participated in the invasion of Southern France, and was at the Battle of the Bulge. He finished the war in Austria chasing the last of the SS. He received a battlefield promotion to 2nd Lt, and received the Bronze Star. Once the war ended, his jeep hit a land mine and blew up underneath him. He broke his back and came home in a hospital ship. (He couldn't ride horses after that.) END
