Nash, died at his East Main street residence Saturday, July 1, at 3 p.m. of general paresis after an illness extending over a period of six years. The deceased was born in Canfield August 19, 1866 and was 38 years of age. After graduating at the head of the class of '86 from the North Eastern Ohio Normal College he attended Alleghany College in Meadville, following his graduation from that institution he began the study of medicine in the Wooster Medical College now known as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Cleveland graduating in 1896. He immediately opened an office in the Truesdale block and soon had a comfortable practice. About this time he was made physician to the Mahoning County Infirmary which position he held until forced by ill health to relinquish it. In November of 1895 he was married to Miss Cora Stafford the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stafford of this place. The widow, Kathryn aged 9, and James aged 6 together with the aged mother Mrs. Mary C. Nash survive him. He was a member of Argus Lodge No. 545 F. &A.M., and was a past master of the order. He was possessed of a brilliant mind and at the time that the dread disease began to make itself apparent he had the brightest of futures before him. Truesdale and John C. Nash "JOHN C. NASH" "We will aim to be more brief in our notice of John C. Nash. We have already noted the fact that he was a playmate and school mate of Wm. J. Truesdale and much that we have said for him may be applied to Doctor Nash who inherited the best of New England blood. His father Col. James M. Nash was a native of Vermont, and a distinguished officer in the Civil War, and afterwards held a number of positions of honor and trust in state, county, and municipal affairs. His (John's) mother was a daughter of the well known Judge John R. Church, the son of Nathaniel Church, one of the original proprietors of the township and the leader of the first party of its surveyors. The Judge's wife was Fanny Joslin who could trace her pedigree back through a noble line to the days of William the Conqueror. Each of these grandparents of Dr. Nash in different spheres for many years exercised a great influence in this community. One in civil matters, the other in Christian affairs. Of the latter we have already referred to in these sketches. Now whether it is worth much or little to be born of parents of noble lineage we can affirm that our subject possessed superior native ability. After an elementary education obtained in our public and normal schools he entered Allegheny College where in due time he graduated. His next move was a four years course of medical instructions in one of the Cleveland schools were he obtained his degree of M.D. Dr. Nash commenced the practice of his profession in his native village and among his life associates, and was winning his way to public confidence as a practitioner of medicine and surgery when an insidious disease began gnawing at the vitals of his life and reason, this was not very apparent at first, but gradually increasing in force it being necessary for him to abandon his practice. The last year of his life was mostly spent within doors a helpless invalid but tenderly nursed and cared for. For a long time before his death his vocal organs were so paralyzed that he could not articulate a word. The end long looked for came at last July 1st in 1905 when Dr. Nash "was not for God took him". He died we think in the 39th year of his life. In 1895 he married Miss Cora Stafford the only daughter of our townspeople Joseph Stafford and wife who survives her husband. The children of this union are a bright daughter and son. At a protracted meeting conducted by the Rev. McGaha during the first year of his pastorate Dr. Nash united with the M. E. Church of Canfield and at once manifested a decided change of life which continued as long as he was responsible for his acts. He was constant in his attendance at all church services, and prompt to take his part in them. No one we think could have doubted his sincerity, and the genuineness of his conversion. All of us deplored the fate that robbed us of one who promised a life of usefulness. This feeling was especially true with Bro. McGaha who was long as he remained with us was devoted in his attendance and sympathy for the suffering brother and his mother and wife. The obsequies of Dr. Nash were conducted by Rev. A. B. Williams in the presence of a large concourse of sympathizing relatives and friends." Family links: Parents: James Madison Nash (1832 - 1896) Mary A.
