Loftus, 88, 521 Wheeler Ave., died Wednesday morning in Mercy Hospital following an illness. She was the widow of Leo L. Loftus, who died in 1956. Born in Springville, daughter of the late Marshall and Marie Thayne Lake, she was employed by Mercy Hospital for more than 30 years before retirement. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Surviving are a son, Robert L., Scranton; five sisters, Mrs. Ruth McAvoy, Mrs. Elizabeth Noonan, Mrs. Theresa Coffey, Mrs. Evelyn Buteaux [sic] and Mrs. Margaret Nurmi, all of Binghamton, N.Y.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Two sons, John and Richard, preceded her in death. The funeral will be Friday from Vanston Funeral Home, Ash Street and North Irving Avenue with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church.
