In the Matter of the Estate ) On Petition for Letters of Sub- stitutionary Administration with of JONATHAN ROBINS, deceased.) Will Annexed. P E T I T I O N. To- JOHN J. PARK, Surrogate of the County of Hunterdon: The petition of Charles D. Tharp, who resides in the township of Union, in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, and whose post office address is Bloomsbury, New Jersey, R. D., respectfully shows: 1. That Jonathan Robins, late of the township of Union, in the County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, died on or about the 12th day of December, 1872, leaving a last will and testament in and by which he appointed Moses Robins ("and his successors,") executor thereof; the said will was duly proved before the Surrogate of the said County of Hunterdon on or about the 23d day of December, 1872, and by him duly recorded in his office and letters testamentary thereon issued to the said Moses Robins as such executor. 2. That the said Moses Robins, after taking upon himself the burden of administration, died on or about the 3d day of November, 1889, leaving certain property, assets of the estate of the said Jonathan Robins, unadministered, to wit: inso far as the certain real estate mentioned in the third and sixth sections of said will is concerned. 3. That the said third section of the will of the said Jonathan Robins is as follows: "Thirdly I give devise and bequeath unto my son Jonas Robins the use of the farm I purchased of the administrators of Reuben R. Wright Dest lying & being in the Township of Alexandria County & State aforesaid containing ninety seven acres & thirty nine hundredths of an acre of land be the same more or less to hold use & occupy the same during his natural life he to keep the same in good repair & not to cut or distroy [sic] more timber than is necessary for fire wood for his own use & to repair fences and buildings on said farm & after the decease of my son Jonas Robins I do order my executor or his successor to sell said farm to the best advantage & the balance after expenses & a reasonable commission to do the same to be divided amonst [sic] his children & his wife that is now living his wife if living to have the interest of on thousan_dollars [sic] yearly during her natural life & at her decease to be equally divided amongst said children of Jonas Robins. The rest of the balance of said farm to be equally divided amongst said children of my son Jonas Robins share & Share alike and if any of the children of said Jonas Robins should have deceased before their father Jonas Robins having children they to have their fathers or mothers share to be divided amongst said children share & share alike. I further give & devise unto my son Jonas Robins the sum of two thousan_ [sic] to be paid to him in one year after my decease or as soon after as can possibly be done." and the said sixth section of said will is as follows: "Sixthly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Wright widow of Reuben R. Wright Dest the use of the farm during her natural life containing one hundred and twenty acres of land be the Same more or less the farm being & being in the Townships of Union & Bethlehem the same whereon the said Elizabeth Wright now lives. I further give unto my daughter Elizabeth Wright all the fixtures on said farm for making Cider & Distilling the same the above farm to be kept in good repair by the said Elizabeth Wright & the timber not to be cut or used for no purpose except for her Fire wood & Repairing fences & buildings on said Farm and at the decease of said Elizabeth Wright I order my Executor or his successor to sell said farm to the best advantage & after paying all Expenses & a reasonable compensation to divide the ballanse [sic] among her Legal heirs share & share alike I further devise and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth One thousand_ [sic] Dollars or as soon as possibly can be done after my Desease." 4. That the said Jonas Robins mentioned in the third section of the said will, and who became life tenant of the said certain real estate in said section mentioned, died on or about the 30th day of December, 1905; And the said Elizabeth Wright, widow of Reuben R. Wright, to whom was devised the use of the farm mentioned in the sixth section of said will, during her natural life, died on or about the 5th day of July, 1932; That the said Elizabeth Wright mentioned in said will of said Jonathan Robins, deceased, as the widow of Reuben R. Wright, afterwards married one, Jonas J. Tharp, and thereby her name became Elizabeth Wright Tharp and so remained until her death as aforesaid. 5. That after the death of Moses Robins, the executor of the said will of Jonathan Robins, deceased, on the 3d day of November, 1889, and after the death of Jonas Robins mentioned in the third section of said will of Jonathan Robins, deceased, to wit; on or about the 19th day of January, 1906, letters of substitutionary administration with will of said Jonathan Robins annexed, were granted unto one, Ellery Robbins, who took upon himself the burden of such substituted administration. 6. That the said Ellery Robbins, substituted administration as aforesaid, among other things, sold and disposed of the said farm mentioned in the third section of said will agreeable to the authority therein given, but before completing the administration of said estate agreeable to said will, the said Ellery Robbins, substituted administrator with will annexed as aforesaid, departed this life, to wit, on or about the 23rd day of November, 1929, since when and down to the present time no further substitutionary administration has been granted on the said estate of Jonathan Robins, deceased. 7. That the said Elizabeth Wright, afterwards Elizabeth Wright afterwards Elizabeth Wright Tharp, [sic] after the death of the said Jonathan Robins, continued upon and enjoyed the use of the said farm premises mentioned in the sixth section of said will, in accordance with the terms of said will, from thence until the date of her death on July 5, 1932. 8. That by the terms of said sixth section of said will, at the decease of the said Elizabeth Wright, afterwards Elizabeth Wright Tharp, the executor or his successor of the will of the said Jonathan Robins, deceased, was ordered to sell the said farm so enjoyed by the said Elizabeth Wright, afterwards Tharp, during her lifetime, to the best advanatge and after paying all expenses and a reasonable compensation to divide the "ballance" [sic] among her "Leagel" [sic] heirs, share and share alike. 9. That the estimated value of the property of said decedent remaining unadministered at this time and which consists only of said farm mentioned in the 6th section of said will, does not exceed in value the sum of Fifty-five hundred dollars, as near as your petitioner can ascertain and is informed and verily believes. 10. That the only persons interested in the proceeds from the sale of said farm as directed in the said sixth section of said will are the legal heirs of the said ELizabeth Wright, afterwards Tharp, deceased. 11. That the names of the said legal heirs of the said Elizabeth Wright, afterwards Tharp, deceased, with their residences and post office addresses, are as follows: (a) Harman K. Wright, son, Milford, N.J. R.D. #2 (b) Ella Race, daughter, Pittstown, N.J. (c) Charles D. Tharp, son, Bloomsbury, N.J., R.D. He is a descendent of the Runyon family of Piscataway, Middlesex Co., New Jersey. He is the 1st husband of Elizabeth Robins buried in the Robins Cemetery and father of Calvin Wright also buried in Robins. The Robins name is also spelled Robbins with a double "b" and is used interchangeably amongst the families. The people buried in the Robins Cemetery are all related to each other. They are either grandparents, parents, children, siblings, grandchildren or cousins. These families include the Case, Fleming, Godown, Lomping, Lawshe, Robins, and Wright surnames. They all lived on the mountain adjacent to each other on various farms. The Garrison-Tharp Cemetery, about 1/2 mile north on County Road 579 on Garrison Court on the Bethlehem Township side of CR 579 is the family burial ground of James Garrison and Dinah Robins. Dinah is the granddaughter of Jonathan the progenator. That cemetery has Garrison descendents and also Ephraim and Susanna Jarrard Tharp-the parents of Jonas Jarrard Tharp-2nd husband of Elizabeth Robins Wright Tharp. One notable descendent of Jonathan Robins-the progenitor was John Garrison b. July 1824 in Alexandria Twp., d. January 21, 1900 in Los Angeles, California. People are more familiar with his more known AKA name-Jeremiah Johnson. The movie "Jeremiah Johnson" with the character played by Robert Redford is loosely based on his life. He was a 2nd great grandson of Jonathan Robins and a 1st cousin once removed of Jonathan Robins b. 1793 buried in Robins Cemetery. Notes: The four children Anna, George, John L. and Sarah Robins are the children of Moses and Sarah Kels Robins. Moses is the son of Jonathan and Charity Lomping Lawshe Robins and brother of Jonas b. 1828 buries in Robins. Moses and Sarah are buried in the Bloomsbury Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Bloomsbury, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey. The book "History of Hunterdon and Somerset Counties", Part 1, New Jersey by James P. Snell, 1881, page 470 gives a biography of Moses and Susan Kels Robins and their children where the birth and death info of their 4 children was obtained from as the headstones of the 4 are worn and difficult to read.
