BORN 100 YEARS AGO.
Mrs. Ann Alexander, a centenarian, died yesterday at West Charlton. Her
maiden name was Ann Hayes, and sine was born in Salem, Conn., Jan. 22, 1798.
When still a child, the family, seven in number, moved to Galway, Saratoga
county, (making the trip in a sleigh drawn by an ox team. The latter part
of the trip was made through an unbroken forest, and their new home was a
single roomed log cabin in the wilderness.  In 1831 Ann Hayes married John
Alexander of Galway, and a happy married life of over sixty years ensued.
He died seven years ago at the advanced age of 91. No child was born to
them, nor did they ever have a third person living In the house with them.
Almost to the last the mind of the deceased was perfectly clear. She would
talk with interest and animation of her early life, as well as of occurrences
of later years. She remembered distinctly the incidents connected with the
war of 1812. She was always bright and cheerful and walked about with the
aid of a cane.
