email exchange ... BEGIN From: val king [vjean75@hotmail.com] Sent: Sunday, September 13, 2009 8:41 PM I'm still hoping that someone will help me find the parents of "my" John Robins, (wife Tabitha - maybe nee Strowbridge) born in New Jersey, U.S. about 1785. He became a Canadian citizen in 1848. His family is shown in the Ontario 1851 census. He may have been born about 1785. His children were Joshua (wife June Coates) Job D. (wife Christiana Smith), Tabitha, John Palmer, James H. Dorkis, Catherine, Hannah, Keziah. John may have had a brother named Blakely (there are a few different spellings for this man). Is this John Robins related or the son of one of the four brothers(Job (Mary), James R. Daniel and Stephen. Or is he related to Joshua (listed as a United Empire Loyalist - an "old soldier")who came to Canada around 1790, and had 8 children? From: marcelofamilytx [tmarcelo@austin.rr.com] Sent: Sunday, September 13, 2009 10:52 PM The John Robins b. 1785 is one of the lines I've been working on. John lived in Thorold with his brother Daniel (b. 1777). They both received land grants from the Crown in 1809 for lots in Wainfleet. But both sold their lots there. John moved to Norfolk Co. Ontario and Daniel moved to Gainsborough. I believe John and Daniel are the sons of the widow Sarah Robins of Thorold. (I'm still gathering the proof.) Their other brother seems to have been Blatchley Robins, who was also of Thorold. I'm confused by part of your post here and I hope you can give me more information... You said: "Is this John Robins related or the son of one of the four brothers(Job (Mary), James R. Daniel and Stephen. How do you know that Job who married Mary Palmer is a brother of Daniel and Stephen? Also, I believe James' middle initial was K. But I don't see how he would be a brother to Stephen or Daniel--as he was born around 1788 and Stephen and Daniel were born in 1765 and 1767, respectively. Also, what record do you have that indicates that Joshua had 8 children? You are referring to the Joshua of Thorold, right? He received land from the Crown in 1794. But I haven't found a petition for him, have you? A lot of it is information gaathered from other researchers, and may be either incorrect or documented. I had at one time decided that John was the son of Joshua, but apparently not so - if the presumed ages are correct. Sarah was the widow of ??? Sarah brought here children to Canada? It would be great to trace "my" John's ancestry. He was my third great grandfather. Mary Robins (Mussell ) my grandmother. Her father was Job Robins (Ann Silverthorn) Job's father was Joshua Robins (Jane Coates). Joshua's father was John Robins. END
