Were you aware that George and Mary Johnston Garrison donated the land ca. 1824 (from memory) for the Norton Church and adjacent graveyard -- the church had many names over the years:  Mine Hole due to its proximity to the Norton Furnace and present day it is the North Hunterdon Methodist Church.  I'm assuming the property was originally from the Johnston side because Judge Samuel Johnston owned approx. 1700 acres in that area (James inherited the Norton manor and land -- and passed same down to George and Mary). He is buried at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Ringoes with his first wife, Rebecca Meldrum, who died about 1753. Rachel was using her maiden name, Garrison, in the 1850 census when she was "about 39."
