Apparently, John Taylor researched him. Also, he was "befriended by Van Swearingen". Taylor, Jr. researched. According to John, he was never able to place the origin of rifle man Benjamin Robbins of Morgan’s Rifle Company as Benjamin Robbins his ancestor because of lack of records. John speculated Benjamin Robbins joined Col. Morgan in July 1777, the same date General Washington issued orders to Morgan’s Rifle Corps to recruit volunteers in NJ near Benjamin’s home. I don’t know the basis for how Benjamin Robbins was “befriended by Van Swearingen.” John’s theory on Benjamin Robbins can be found in his book Richard Robins, Loyalist pgs. 79, 80, 245, 246 published in 1995. This subject was of interest to John because Benjamin Robbins’ father Richard Robins 1724-1785 was a Quaker & a Loyalist. Richard Robins spent 20 months in NJ & Philadelphia jails & was exiled to Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1783. END
