Notation on the grant says they came from New Jersey. Same people in the grants you found, but Stephen was not involved in them. This could be related to the sale of granted land at some point. Stephen's children were John, Daniel, Stephen, Andrew and Nancy. Ontario based Robins outside of my family are all matching the Robins modal Y DNA. so, some kind of relationship,  but nothing  I can really pin down right now. END 1. Stephen and Daniel Robins, Gainsborough, Ontario Posted by: richard.robbins13@yahoo.com Date: Thu Feb 5, 2015 9:35 pm ((PST)) BEGIN Just a bit of information, to be filed under the "never give up" section: My 5th great grandfather Stephen Robins had gotten 200 acres of land, in the 13th concession of Gainsborough Township in 1795. No records of petitions for Stephen or his alleged brother Daniel have been found as of yet. DNA has proven the connection to the Daniel Robins of New Jersey, and walking back from there, it was found that a Daniel Robins died intestate in NJ. Wills of the time in NJ showed the transfer of land between Daniel Robins of Gainsborough, and his sister Abigail Robins Vaughan. married to Jacob Vaughan. Searching through the Upper Canada Land Petitions (1763-1865) on a whim tonight, I pulled the following snippet out of Jacob's petition. It says: "The petitioner's wife (Abigail Robins Vaughan) has two brothers & a sister in Gainsborough & have been settled therin for five years past." So, confirmation that Daniel and Stephen were brothers, their grants were in 1795, this one was from 1800. And who, I wonder, was the sister? 1. Robins in Gainsborough, Daniel, Abigail, Stephen and unknown. Posted by: richard.robbins13@yahoo.com Date: Fri Jun 5, 2015 6:34 pm ((PDT)) Thanks to the researcher that had posted the original Sussex county deed lists, (sorry, forget the name), I was led to know the speculated sister and brother of my 4th Great Grandfather Stephen. Now, I have further proof of the relationship. Handwritten in a grant document from 1800, was a sidescript from the original document. My 4th Great Grand Aunt, who probably was quite a handful, insisted on inserting this in the document normally reserved for all male mentions in conveyance of lands at that time, (in parentheses is my commentary) The claimant's wife (Abigail Robins Vaughan) has two brothers (Stephen and Daniel) and a sister (Unknown) in Gainsborough and who have been settled there for 5 years past. 1795 was the arrival date of Daniel and Stephen to Gainsborough, 5 years from the date. So, looking for a sister, still out there... Will post document clip later in photos. END From "Calendar of New Jersey Wills Volume X 1801-1805" by Elmer T Hutchinson: BEGIN 1802, Nov. 27. New Jersey about 1793, died in Gainsborough Ontario Hi all, Below is a transcription of Thomas Robbins' will. In the will he leaves his property in Gainsborough--the East part of lot 20, concession 1 and part of lot 21, concession 1 to his children and his wife. He mentions that the land on lot 20 was "...acquired by him from his Father under the condition that his other children should have an equal share of the pine timber thereon.." The will also indicated that the West part of lot 20 was owned by John Robins and Jacob Robins. This John appears to be John Daniel Robbins b. 1814 m. Annie Hoover. This Jacob appears to be Jacob Robbins b. between 1807-1809 m. Elizabeth Crow. I should point out that Daniel Robins was the first Robins to own lot 20 in Gainsborough, beginning 1798. This is the Daniel who was born in 1765 in New Jersey and the brother of Stephen Robbins b. 1767. (They are the men who we recently established as being the sons of Daniel Robbins of Knowlton who died 1802 intestate.) Because Thomas says he acquired the land from his father...it seems to imply that Daniel was the father of Thomas. In the abstract index of deeds I don't find a deed in which Daniel gave this land to Thomas; however there are deeds for Daniel giving part of the West half of the lot to John Robbins and part of it to Jacob Robbins. Here is a transcript of the Abstract Index entries: Lot 20, Con 1 1798 March 23 Patent: The Crown to Adam Vrooman 200 acres 1798 Nov 26 Deed 110: Adam Vrooman to Daniel Robins all 200 acres 1830 Jun 23 Quit Claim 12191: Solomon Vrooman to Samuel Street 1841 Aug 23 Deed: 5592: Daniel Robins to John Robins 42 acres 1841 Aug 23 Deed: 5593: Daniel Robins to Jacob Robins N. pt 33 acres, S. pt. 60 acres 1861 July 26 Will: 15443: Thomas Robins to children (The will was recorded 5 June 1865). Lincoln county. a Daniel D. Robins, apparently born about 1810, his wife Elizabeth age 37, their children Rebecca, 15, Mary, 13 and Phebe 9 Also living with them is Daniel Robbins, b. U.S. age 71 (b. about 1781?). I did not find Daniel Sr. in the 1861 census. In the 1861 census I found John D. age 46 his wife Anna and their children. It seems that Thomas, age 68, born in New Jersey and Henrietta age 61 are living with them. Jacob Sr. age 52, and Elizabeth age 46, also living either with them or near them. Philip Marr is also listed as well as another Daniel age 31 and his wife Harriet age 26 and their children and yet another Daniel age 20 Phebe 18, Isaac 10 Henrietta 6 Harmon 2. It looks like these are children of Jacob and Elizabeth. (All listed on the same page, district 3 Gainsborough twp). OK back to the people listed in the will: I cannot find Emmeline (Schram) I looked in 1851,61,71 and 91 census. I did find Nancy Hoover in the 1861 census listed with her husband and 5 children, one named Thomas and one named Henrietta. Also Rebecca living in Wainfleet with her husband George Sourwine and their 5 children, one named Thomas. You may all have all of the above information, if so sorry for the repeats. It's interesting to trace the various branches, none of these are mine (John and Tabitha) but it's possible that they are related. Are Thomas and Daniel D. brothers, sons of Daniel Sr.? Do we know Daniel Sr.'s wife's name? Are there more children? END
