Jonathan Scofield, (first cousin to wife) b. Stamford, Fairfield, Conn. 2 May
1719; d. August 1757, Lake George, Warren, New York; m. Stamford c. 1746. Son
of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Pettit) Scofield.

Rachel Lounsbury was the daughter of Henry and Mercy (Scofield) Lounsbury,
b. Stamford 15 January 1718/19.

Children (all baptized at the Stamford First Congregational Church):
i. Rachel bp. 29 March 1747; ii. Jonathan bp. 25 December 1748; iii. Noah
bpt. 12 August 1750; iv. Henry bp. 14 June 1752; v. Caleb bp. 11 August 1754;
vi. Mercy bp. 29 August 1756; vii. Susannah bp. 16 June 1758.

During the French and Indian War, beginning 3 August 1757 at Lake George,
Warren, New York, occurred the Battle of Fort William Henry with French
victory over British and the Indians slaying many after the battle
was over. Jonathan served in the Regiment under Col. Jonathan Hoyt,
of Capt. Perez Fitch's Company. Brothers Silas (1735-1763) and Abraham
(1737-1812) were also in same company but survived. The bloody campaign
for Fort William Henry at the foot of Lake George carried on from 3 August
to 9 August 1757. Daughter Susannah was born posthumously probably in May
1758. “Susannah, daughter of Rachel, widow of Jonathan, baptized 16 June
1758” (Stamford First Congregational Church, Vol. 3, p. 66). The death
year of 1788 for Jonathan where it is noted he was age 40, was lifted
from Stamford records and published in A Scofield Survey confusing the
father’s death with his son’s death. Further Stamford records do not
reveal a remarriage or death of Widow Rachel Scofield.
